Sound comes when Changing the gear From Neutral to Reverse
Hello,
I am new to this forum, and this is my first post. I hope I can get some information about my vehicle. It makes a clicking sound when I put the gear to Reverse from Neutral. Almost all the time this happens when I park on driveway where, it is slightly inclined. I hardly hear the noise from when vehicle is parked on a flat surface. I have attached couple of video files hoping you can give me some advise on the sound (along with the second range you can hear it). Google Link: 5th to 8th seconds: https://drive.google.com/file/d/19Ks...usp=drive_link 0 to 9 Seconds: https://drive.google.com/file/d/14OY...ew?usp=sharing 4 to 7 seconds: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1shI...ew?usp=sharing Appreciate if one of you can help me out, Thanks, Chameera P. |

It's normal to be a bit paranoid with a nice car like yours. On my 440i, it does the same thing. Engaging gears, especially when on an incline, create a pronounce mechanical clunk. I barely feel it, but mostly just hear it if my window is down. My garage has an incline to exit and occasionally I have to stop on the steep incline, shift to reverse, and then shift back to drive all while at an extreme angle. I used to think it was out of the ordinary but upon further inspection I have no issues. The way I think about it, the transmission is most likely dealing with input forces from the engine to the torque converter and the clunk sound is just the engaging of gears - which gets pronounced when there is more load on the transmission (minuscule at a standstill, but could be magnified by the incline). Don't worry and enjoy your car! |
