Door ding

So have just got a new iX less than a month ago, take it on a trip park in a lot and the rest is not ingrained in the door history. Someone opened their door into mine. Thankfully it didn’t seem like a jagged edge and if I think it was the car then they also had edge guards which is ironic. Regardless there is now a vertical indent. It’s very unnoticeable because of the black metallic pint but when the light hits it just right it’s probably the size of a fingernail. Thought about the pdr kit but not sure that would work and don’t want to experiment much blindly.

Any suggestions?

I used a PDR "professional" to remove a small ding on a Rav4 (on the lift gate) and my Aluminum F150 (on the rear door). Never knew the dent ever happened. Maybe a few hundred dollars each.

PDR take alot of practice and its better to just hire a professional to do the work right. I've had miracles performed by my PDR guy who pried away 4 dings and a large dent across the front right panel across a body line. Stealerships use them alot.

Thanks, I’m having a hard time finding a reputable one in NYC. Truth be told I haven’t done extensive research but if I find one there’s a ding on our other car too so maybe a two for one deal. Anyone from NYC/NJ area have recommendations?

And WHO you use is very important. Ask around and read reviews and don't just rush to use who you find first. My new DD had one fixed before I picked it up and it's ok, 98% at least, but I can still find it. I found another after I got it home and took it to a guy everyone brags about here and I seriously can't find it when I know where it was and look for it under overhead shop lights.

He is super anal and even mocked the other guys work. LOL

What they can get out these days is quite impressive when you use the right guys. I always make it clear that I am a car guy, and picky, and willing to pay extra. If that scares them - I don't come back. If that challenges them into bragging about their work - I like it. I want someone with confidence.

I agree with you about finding a pro to do this type of PDR work. The dealerships always outsource this type of repair and maybe the OP could give a tip to his service advisor and get the name of the person they use? 😉

I'd ask the local high end car folks. There has to be some organized group nearby running all their exotics. Those are the people that will know who does the best work.

See Bruno at this location of Dent Wizard.
Don't be concerned about the corporate name on the door.
He is a one man show and an absolute magician.
Highly skilled and hired by high end dealerships in NJ for PDR.

I'm in NYC and have never considered anyone else for PDR.
Short trip to NJ.

Thank you! If you don’t mind my asking what’s something like this run? The 2 I have one on each car are pretty small as in on my just like a soft press right on the bump out of the door and on my MDX someone lost grip in strong wind likely and left a gradually deepening one but neither has paint damage. Just curious if we’re n the realm of few hundred more/less.

If you can afford a new iX, I can’t imagine why you wouldn’t spend the small amount of money it costs for professional PDR.

It all depends on the kind of damage.
What could appear minor to us could
require more time than another type of ding.

It has to be assessed by the person doing the PDR.
It’s really priced by the time it takes to repair the damage.

You’re in the ball park. I’ve paid in the area of
$200 per ding depending on size, location, etc.

It is worth every penny.

Makes sense, I’ll for sure give him a call.
