Which one? New Porsche Cayman (base model) or Z4 Coupe?
http://www.worldcarfans.com/news.cfm...e-base-version
Porsche announced the new non-S model of the Cayman today. With a base price of $49,400 and and pretty mediocre engine specs (at least for a Porsche), it seems like you are not getting a whole lot for your money. Still can't understand why it is more expensive than the identical-engined Boxster. Seems like a Z4 Coupe would give you a lot more value, for about 10k less, with little or no drop in performance in most real world situations. |

i know how u feel, its so tempting to have a porsche in the driveway nomatterr what the specs, after looking at the article though i would go for z4 unless u could pull off a cayman s, which i would take ahead of a z4 m coupe

aw crap, that cayman is stripped down to nothing. Which one will you pick?
Porsche Cayman Base $53-$56k BMW Z4 M Roadster $53K-$57k Porsche Cayman S $60k-$64 :rocks: BMW Z4 M Roadster $53k-$57k I'd probably go with the Z4M because it's cheaper, faster, and I can go topless whenever I want. |

I've actually been waiting for Porsche to announce the base Cayman to see how competitive the pricing would be. I've driven a good friend's Boxster several times and loved it, but can't deal with having a roadster for my only car. I had been agonizing over both the Z4 Coupe and the upcoming 335i coupe but practicality won out and I ordered a e90 330i 6MT ZSP last week. I road-trip on the weekends a lot, and I need the room. But between the Z4 Coupe and the Cayman, I agree with you guys, definitely the Z4.

i agree with ward. it's not about power or features, it's about how each car drives and as harsh as it sounds, i think porsche is still a step or two above BMW in that area.

Sometimes its all about "Panache" and brand. Porsche has associated with it an affluenet following =money=status. Like Ferrari, if you say you drive a Ferrari, the person has an immediate perception of you. If you say you drive a Toyota....BFD!!! It's all about status and what's in the driveway. Depends where you are in life and the meaning you are trying to convey. If you do not care..buy what fancies you...If you care about perception...buy the Ferrari, Porsche, Austin,,,Lambo,,,etc....that's what will get you the looks your're looking for....How vain are you???

I have been through this comparison myself, and Z4 M Coupe came out on top. $10000 cheaper than a Cayman S, faster than a Caymen S, and its aimed to beat the 911. I got two options, Metallic Paint and Navigation.:rocks:

go drive them both and you'll quickly realize where the extra 10 grand is...... the Boxster S is cheaper than the Cayman S and even with less power than the Cayman it's still imo a better car |

I'd say bump up your budget by $4,000 and get the Z4 M Roadster.
I'm going to have a similar debate come the release of the new M3. It's going to be between the new M3 and the Porsche Cayman S. Most likely I'm going to take the new M3 because with the Porsche you pay for everything from power windows to the Porsche crest embeddded in the seats, and even, get this, $300 or so for the logo on the wheels to be in color. Absurd! |
