Rock rattling in Wheel Wells?

I have a new 2024 M4 Convertible and i'm noticing what sounds like a rock, gravel, acorn rattling around in the wheel wells when i drive. The sound comes and goes, but it is quite annoying. The sound of the debris pinging around the wheel well is quite echoey.

Are others experiencing this? Any tips? Is it possible its something else?

All the time? I'd get the dealer to poke around in there and take a look.

Quite often. It is not constant but on any given drive i hear it several times. Its not isolated to any particular wheel well either. I hear front left, rear right, etc.

I'll add it to my list of break-in service topics...

If it's random and not isolated to a single wheel it probably *is* rocks/debris, the wheel wells are quite echoy.

I noticed the same thing with my new M3, just assumed it was debris hitting off the insides of the wheel wells.

Good to know its not just me, but it just seems so much more frequent and louder than my 2015 M4 F83.

Is it a random ticking sound from the wheel area when going slow?

I just did the BMW Ultimate Driving Experience last weekend. We were in an asphalt parking lot that was pretty patchy, and the patches were getting unraveled a bit by the load from the cars. While we were sitting there, we heard a "pong-sreeeeeeeech" and the instructor said "oh boy, another rock". This was on an i4 M50i. It had picked up a piece of asphalt gravel between the brake disc and the pizza pan. He said it had been happening all day.

So, not uncommon.

What you are hearing is probably what all of us hear from time to time when driving these cars. Dirt, rocks, and debris picked up by our soft compound tires, and flung into the wheel wells. I am not sure why, but it seems to me that these sounds are louder in the G80/82 than in my previous F series 440i which was fitted with the same tires (MP4S)?

Yeah, my point of reference was an F83 compared to my G83. I almost never heard in on my 2015 M4 driving same streets in Austin, TX as do with 2024 M4, which I hear it numerous times per trip.

My first few days of ownership I’ve experience this. Like my gosh the tires are picking up everything and throwing it around the wheel wells!

Most cars in this segment have felt lined wheel wells which dampens most of that noise. For some reason these cars have just plastic.
