Treads on new tires not as advertised???

Got 4 new Bridgestone alenza as RF on my x7.
Was done at the dealership.
Recently when checking their inspection report i noticed that the treads were measuredby them at 8/32 right after install. When chekcing the product details on the dealer website it shows10/32.

How is this possible??? Was i screwed over??? They didn't look like used tires. Is this normal practice by tire manufacturers? This is first tire change on my 2021 x7 so I do not have a reference point to compare to in the past. Never bothered on my older camry or sonata when i got new tires. Well they were much cheaper so never cared.

Have anyone seen this discrepancy on new tires??? Wondering what I should do. If the dealership fleased me or not. 20% less tread than what is advertised is freaking wierd.

Did you measure to see what it actually is? I doubt the dealer measured them if they were new and just put whatever number on the paper.

Are they using a digital depth gauge, or one of the inexpensive analog types? On an analog type, 10/32" appears at the same depth as 8mm. Maybe they just read the wrong scale. Buy yourself a digital gauge Steelman 60664 -- about $20 on Amazon.

Yeah, they’re 10/32 from the factory so that’s what they are I’m sure.

I didn't measure it.
The dealership who installed it measured it as 8/32. The dealership were i got serviced 3 weeks later measured it the same.
So looks like they are both measuring the same way and same thing.

This makes me wonder are they taking about the life of tread remaining in the inspection reports where they are measuring from the tread wear bar which is already at 2/32. Well then it would make sense. Also came across this link where they talk about measuring the life of treads from the tread bar as once it hits 2/32 the tire is caput.

Logically it makes sense, but.......

Does this seem usual for bimmer techs?? U guys come across it?

i generally ignore the dealer tire depth measurements. they always seem to be lower than it really is, they all use a depth gauge that seems to be 2/32nds less than reality. the only reason they check is to sell tires anyway.
same thing with lease inspectors. caught one measuring on the wear bars to try and say i was under for lease return. "my mistake" yeah right...

just pick up a tread gauge from amazon and check yourself. only way to be sure. and dont measure on the wear bars.

would the analog one work just fine or should it have to be digital?

Dealers often measure from the top of the wear bar which is 2/32" tall. They are probably used to doing that since that is where it must be measured for CPO inspections.
