Scary crash test video
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Vjdhkknfo94
The X6M is not exactly impressive here, or should I say it's impressively bad. That Ford Explorer, however, .... |

Absolutely BS video. That guy has tons of this cartoons and I have no idea how the physical/crash modeling is done. This is a legit X5 crash test

Asian stuff usually crumbles like a beer can in those kind of videos.
Saw the aftermath of a head on recently between a Tahoe and Hyundai. Damage to Tahoe grill and bumper that crushed the Korean tin can back to the windshield. |

Moral of this story is don't park against a concrete barrier in front of fast moving trailer trucks. Stupid test. There are accidents you just don't walk away from, I doubt a Hummer could have survived this test.

I have been privy to real CAE simulation of crashes and they can be so close to real world that for automakers today, physical crash testing primarily serves to confirm sim results. That said, this requires design and material accurate models, including all join methods properly represented, right down to wiring harnesses and weld strategy. Some internet sim dude is not going to have that level of vehicle model, so assume these are for entertainment purposes only.
Not sure how the X5 would fare but as an engineer I don’t have the absolute greatest expectations for the V8 models. At the end of the day, physics always wins, and a vehicle with a large non-deformable block of metal (like a big turbo V8) is going to be a challenge in terms of crash compatibility. |

But you know the V8 is shorter than inline6 by a big margins, right? About 70% of the length. If you worry about V8 being intrusive at frontal crash, then inline6 will be worse.
It has been more than 20 years, engine mount and subframe is designed to drop and fold under passenger zone if front crumble zone is compromised. Sure how well each manufacturer does is a different story, but the concern is engine block in crash isn’t new at all. This video is definitely fake. And test conditions is unrealistic. Getting squeezed by a 30 ton rig and a solid concrete wall, I am not sure any car will survive

Judging by the video my next vehicle purchase will be a cement mixer…

This is an example of the same "accident" at different speed progressions. There are better ones out there, but you'll get the idea: https://youtube.com/shorts/UQIVomNPd...Ntgs1F7N54bRdR Mark |

FWIW, while any crash can look really nasty, the more the body crunches, up to the point of the safety cage around the passenger compartment, the more energy it absorbs, and the less effect it has on the people inside. At that point, it's not about saving the vehicle, it's about protecting the occupants. The down side is, you hope your insurance is good, as you will likely be spending a lot to either replace or repair that vehicle.
AI can make videos that, at least on the surface, are pretty realistic. Not necessarily accurate, though. |

100% fiction/entertainment. And they are entertaining. The guy has some personal vendetta against Ford. Typically all the Ford vehicles, especially the Bronco’s, get demolished ten fold the average. It’s hilarious. Ford nutswingers are always in a major huff in the ‘Gram comments.

the creator is getting the clickbaits he wants. i don't know what media site i first saw his "crash tests", but just a couple weeks ago, he simulated what crashes would look like on the Moon and different planets according to their gravity relative to Earth's. interesting, to say the least...

You can watch crash tests or you can ask a State Police Officer about which cars do well or poorly in real world crashes. They see the results from all different angles and speeds in the field on a daily basis.

Completely fake. This might be from a YouTube channel that makes these and have been making them for a better part of a decade. They are fun CGI and are NOT real at all, not even the behavior is real.

I never said I agreed with his visual interpretation of the physics, but while crude, they are 'correct' as a way of dumbing down physics for some. Last edited by nZtiZia; 10-15-2023 at 09:38 PM.. |
