Came across this today. Something like this would allow for the retrofit of a generic front camera and such. Would also give you built in native android instead of just Android Auto.

Not sure if anyone was looking for something like this.

Here's a video of the install and it running on an 5 series G20. Not the our G01... but shows it working at the end. Hold Menu to swap between native BMW idrive 7 and the new interface.

Seems very cool, but I have a suspicion that if I tried to do it, it would (a) take 50 (maybe even 100) times longer than that video; and (b) I would screw it up; and (c) I would screw up the existing system; and (d) I would have to pay somebody to put it all back together.

Yeah. The install does seem a bit of effort... but the good thing is that we're getting aftermarket support for the MGU IDrive 7 system.

What this hopefully means is that soon there will be a direct plug and play screen upgrade replacement that will have all these things built in or whatever.
