New X7: How much negotiation is too much?
We are very close to purchasing our first X7. After a lot of back and forth with several dealers we have locked in a pretty good deal. With that said, I was offered an additional 1% off MSRP from yet another dealer on one of their in stock vehicles, but the config is less desirable for us.
Is it worth taking this back to the dealer who has the vehicle we actually want? Given we are getting a pretty solid deal already, and prefer this car, I’d hate to take this offer back to them only to find they are annoyed and do not proceed with the sale. Thoughts? |

How much off MSRP are you getting now? Need the full picture before commenting.

You are at the range of discounts for BMW. Did you check on financing or lease rates are they the same? Dealer often will get at least another finance point in the back end. If all of that is the same, if you really like the other dealer, ask them to match it. If they don’t then buy it from the other dealer but service it at your favorite dealer. I have certainly done that before. 1 percent is 1 percent, nothing to sneeze at.

It doesn't hurt to ask...don't think they will get annoyed to the point of cancelling the deal. However, you say the other vehicle is not exactly what you want, so the dealer could use that and not budge any further...would be different if they had the exact same vehicle/options.
Just be at a point where you are willing to sign the deal...what annoys dealers the most is people who keep trying to negotiate and go back and forth between two dealers. At some point, you gotta pick a horse and make your final request for pricing. Another option is to see if they'll throw anything else into the deal; floor mats, key loss protection, tint, etc. Sometimes if they bundle the extra stuff in they can get a kickback. |

I asked for the extra point off as a means to offset the markup on the APR. We will see what they say. |

For a car of this price point 1% should not be a deal breaker. That being said, I think you should get the car you want exactly and ask for the discount. tell them it’s your final offer take it or leave it. I pin dealers against each other often as they will also pin customer against customer if a car is very desireable….

It is a great discount. I’m waiting for my X7, but I doubt that my dealer can offer me that much off the price. Honestly, I would go with the car you want, dispute the discount. 1% might make a slight difference, but you will the car and in a long run that what matters.
Now, I’m doubting my dealer. Are you getting 9.5% off the MSRP? Financing? Cash? I definitely need to talk to my dealer! LOL Unfortunately, not sure that they can go that low on price. Max they could do 4% here in MD |

It's crazy how folks in CA get the best discounts (probably to offset the delivery time/distance for the car)!
If dealer doesn't match, I'd stick w/the original deal. Better build on a car makes it more desirable both now and later should you choose to sell. There's a reason the other car has a higher discount (harder to sell). |

Both of these cars are fully loaded M60s. So the fact that these discounts are coming in for the M60 is already pretty good.
The Dravit has captains chairs and 23in wheels. The Brooklyn has the bench and 22in wheels. I’d take either one honestly but think I prefer the Brooklyn color, and the bench. I also do not really want 23s…CA roads are trash. |

About 10% is right, although usually you need to fight for it. Get the car you want but squeeze the dealer a little more, you’ll get it especially if you show them that offer

That’s a great deal off MSRP for a new build. At that discount it’s at or below wholesale price.
I would get the X7 the way you want it, over an additional 1pt savings. You can always ask, worst they say is no. On lot cars are usually more negotiable because of floorplan costs. The dealer is more motivated to sell cars on their lot. |

In my opinion, the saving value -vs- getting a vehicle that's missing desirable features will infinitesimal in a very short time. I'd always suggest getting the vehicle with your preferred options is paramount. In a year or two when you're getting a little bored, a few missing options will seem like big mistake opposed to the saving you score at purchase.
