Having a hard time deciding 5 series or E class

I figured many of you are in the same boat as me. I have pretty much narrowed my decision down to the G60 5 series or the W214 E Class. I don't think im ready for all electric so leaning towards the 540i Xdrive or E450.

For those that considered these two what has you leaning towards the 5 or the E class?

I was in the same boat as a long time Mercedes owner but wanted to try EV and just couldn’t stand the EQ designs

Didn’t choose the E mainly on few subjective design details:
- design a bit fussy in avantgarde trim, with stars everywhere on the grille, lights, etc
- the connecting black trim around the grille looks odd in light colours
- the entire dash is essentially just screens
- prefer the clean full glass roof over the traditional two pieces in the E

Test drive both and see which one you like the best in term of driving, handling

I have the W213 E450. I would say it's driving smoother than BMW's inline 6 engine (from my experience with 840). E450 feels like a boat to me - rarely any turbo lag.

I'm having similar driving feels for my i5. Unfortunately not 540 so cannot directly compare, but I'd pick the MB inline 6 engine if I were you.

Just read that the W214 production got pushed back to the end of 2024 due to a battery shortage from Bosch. That certainly makes the decision a bit easier now if true.

I don’t like the no buttons in the new BMWs with idrive 8.5. Also the new 5 series doesn’t yet have rear wheel steering, adaptive suspension or massaging seats, and the multicontour seats are not the same as before. Definitely will be looking at 2024 E class instead.

Well, the new 5 series has at least rear wheel steering and adaptive suspension

BMW must have stolen fake MB sketches and came up with this nonsense. Easy win for W214. Thank you, BMW, for letting me try Mercedes E class this time around.

The 2024 5 series does not have these as options in the USA nor are they standard equipment that I can find.

If you have a link to where they are available I would appreciate you posting it.

Here in Canada, the 2024 i5 includes rear wheel steering and adaptive suspension professional as standard with the M60 model.

This thread was about the 5, not the i5.
