Valet Mode missing? (X1 M35i)

Hi all - just took delivery of the new 2024 X1 M35i (based in USA) and loving it so far. However one weird thing is that we can't seem to find the valet mode option in iDrive 9. The BMW genius that was walking us through it also seemed to be stumped as it was normally in the settings menu. Also tried doing a search for valet in the iDrive 9 menu and nothing came up.

I wanted to see if anyone else with idrive9 / M35i know where it is, or is this something that's not in this model (2024 X1 M35i - USA variant)?

Thanks so much!

It could be that your car got shipped with an earlier version of iDrive 9 which didn’t yet have valet mode. Check to see if you have a software update.

If not, try hard resetting by long-pressing the volume knob (when in drive-ready state) until the screen goes black and then the system will reboot.

Congrats, time to post picks in the new car pics thread... We are all rabid for images of this car in the wild.

there are places where valet parking is unavoidable, but I generally try to stay away from such places

don't use valet parking until you have installed a couple of dashcams with parking mode to record everything.... (interior and exterior) I learned this lesson the hard way.

Thanks yall - appreciate it. Took a look and it looks like I have the latest version 07/2023.45 (which I think is the one that bricked a bunch of X1 OTA, but so far hasn't been an issue).

So sadly it seems like ID9 may not have Valet Mode yet. Really odd given that I think it was in ID8 and prior, so hopefully they add it down the line.

Will post photos in the photo thread later once I get a chance!

I can confirm that valet mode is not in my idrive either.

Have you gotten a battery warning or CEL yet?

not sad at all! I wish my X1 doesn't have valet mode, but it's on the obsolete idrive8. which means I can't tell the hotel valet guy "sorry, I have to park this by myself because it doesn't have a valet mode, but you're welcome to ride with me to the valet parking lot where I'll park it myself!"

That might explain why I don't see "Valet Mode" mentioned in the Owner's Manual for my inbound MY24 28i

if that's the case, the removal of the valet mode seems to be permanent for MY24 and later? another 20 cents saved by the BMW bean counters?

Not even so. Code is already there.
They just want to tell us, poor low series model owners, that we are not entitled to use valet services.
By removing glove box lights, door sills.....and valet mode, they are subtly pushing us to buy higher series.
I was considering RR Evoque when new X1 (U11) arrived, so I ordered a full speced 30e as a miniX5, now to be so indirectly insulted by BMW

I pulled up to the parking valet at Park Hyatt last year in my friend's Fiat 500(yes, that tiny cute car) The valet seemed to like it. It's not about the price or class of the car. Strangely, he became skeptical when I slipped him a US$20 bill as tip. He looked at me like I was crazy. I get reimbursed when I travel, so I always generously.(not my money, so......)

Its not about money. Glovebox light price at bulk? Valet mode elimination?
If BMW is not trying to declass their smaller models, it looks very much so.
And customers who want a classy small car will not move to bigger BMWs but to other brands.
While i like more a series1 for my daughter she likes the FIAT. If the series1 is detrimmed....it has no chances

Yes very sad to see them cut corners and pinch Pennie’s, especially for this tier of a brand.

It’s like when Apple started to charge us for a charging port with the phone, then headphones then etc etc

speaking of Apple. I recently bought a Mac Mini with M2 chip. I bought the base model with 256gb SSD, since I only use it as a spare computer connected to my TV. Compared to my previous Mac Mini with the old M1 chip, Apple put in new SSD that was almost 50% slower. Cost cutting at its worst. For everyday use, not really a big deal, but it's an awful feeling knowing that Apple decided to cheap out on the SSD.

They do it for the lower end models in each product. Most people running the base system are not going to need the max speeds on their SSD if they’re just streaming/browsing. Most working professionals in media would never buy the base model and at least upgrade storage and RAM, in which case you get the faster SSD. With the amount of data I move, 256 isn’t even enough for a day of usage for me.
