i5 M60 general thoughts after 4 days of ownership
Picked up my car on Monday. i5 M60 Black/Copper interior with 21in rims. For comparison, I'm coming out of a '21 M550 Bernina/Black Nappa with DHP, leather dash, Alcantara headliner and 19in RFTs.
General thoughts in no particular order. Feel free to ask any questions: - The car looks great and has presence. Something I couldn't really tell from online pics or reviews. It's big, taller than the G30 and you can tell the difference immediately - The interior is different, but not necessarily better. Material quality is down across the board. No option for a leather dash or Alcantara headliner is a major step down. Seats are not as comfortable to me as the G30 (this can change with time), missing upper-back adjustment and even the overall design seems a step backwards. - The center console rises up at the very end to allow room for the rear passenger vents and its exactly where my elbow typically rests. Very annoying. - iDrive 8.5 is a PITA by comparison to having actual buttons. Alot of the quick changes are many menus deep. Some things seems stupid. e.g., i cant seem to turn on the heated seats or steering wheel when the climate settings are in auto. When i want to turn on the climate, i typically tap the temp bar which will add or remove 1 degree (so if its 74 when i tap it goes to 75). I'm still figuring things out so could be me vs the car. - Alot more frustration with iDrive 8.5 that i wont get into, but suffice it to say that the design is not intuitive and the number of tiny app icons doesnt follow any logic + if you have carplay the app drawer in iDrive gets polluted with ios apps. Its a mess - Iconic sounds are actually not horrible. I havent turned them off yet. - The car drives great even without DHP. The blending of regen + braking in D is very natural. They did this part well. Assisted steering is really good on regular roads and the fully hands free stuff worked well on the highway, even with cruise set to 105MPH. Only issue is when the car decides to disconnect you geta mild audible notice and then you're heading straight for a wall if you dont catch it right away (i survived!) - I cant be 100% sure yet, but speed at the top end seems to taper off compared the M550 - G30 had better door cards and cubbies all around. I really miss the left side cubby where i kept my wallet. - The car drives well but you can feel the extra weight. Its smooth on the 21in rims but there's definitely a difference between them and 19s even though they're not RFTs - Charging: I live in a condo so i'm relying on the electrify america free 30 min charging. So far its been a shit-show: across the 2 stations near me, each had 1 station out of 4 broken, was always busy with a line of cars in queue. It took me 3 tries to get a 50% charge over 2 days. |
