Sports vs Comfort seats

For those who have tried both… thoughts on comfort of sport seats vs multi contour?

Thanks to another poster for pointing out that by choosing the Alcantra option on my M60 I switched to sport seats. Didn’t catch that when I placed my order, and now I’m about a week away from delivery.

First time BMW owner, I’m trading in a 2016 Honda Accord which has been just fine for me… so I’m assuming sport seats will be at least “just fine” too…

Multi-contour? To my knowledge they're not available on the US i5. I miss them from my G30 M550 but the sport seats in my i5 M60 are very comfortable and supportive.

I don't miss the electrically adjustable thigh extension. I rarely moved it...set it and forget it. So it only comes into play when my wife drives my car which is very rare.

There are no Multi-contour seats only comfort seats instead of the sport seats.

just test drove a 540i and was pleasantly pleased.

one thing that stood out was that the seats were pretty uncomfortable. wouldn't say ergonomically, but the bottom of the seat was pretty hard...

1) does anyone know if going merino leather would make it softer?
2) does the luxury seating option make this any better?

kind of worried that both wouldn't make a difference...

I have tried all 3 seat options. Comfort with leather and Veganza. Preferred the Veganza. Sport versus Comfort. I went with the sport. It looks nicer and is just as comfortable as the comfort seats. Things to know are 1) Sport seats do not have adjustable side supports for passenger side but do for driver side. 2) The thigh support is manual on the sport seats. I did not check to see if it was manual or electric on the comfort seats. 3) The head rest is adjustable manually only on sport seats.

Hi

I have tried sport seats only statically, only sitting for short time in car at dealership.
They were ok but it felt the support for butt quite firm. Same for back.
Then I got car for 2 days with comfort seats it was different at the begining but after a while I felt very good. They are more comfortable than sport seats but comparing to old G30 still firmer. G30 were like sofa.
It is not the case anymore.

I would say it is also Personal thing one may say Sport are better. I am 96kg and 1.90cm

Same “dimensions”. 212 and 6 3.
That's why I decided on the comfort seats.

If you select the Black Veganza Alcantara seats it will change to the sport seats for the i5 M60.

In the US configurator online for the eDrive40, the "comfort" seats are called the Luxury Seating Package. If you don't get that package, then you get Sport seats by default. In addition, you can only get the Luxury Seating Package with certain interior colors and materials so you may have to play around with the interior materials and colors to find the one you like most if you want the Luxury Seating Package.

I would call it supportive rather than firm. I have severe arthritis in my lower back, with nerves being crushed by bone overgrowth. The comfort seats were the best for me and I can actually drive for quite a while without pain. In most cars, I get uncomfortable after about 30 minutes. I was able to dial in a perfect position with the standard adjustments.

I have the comfort seats. I compared the comfort seats to the "standard" seats in the i5, and beyond some additional powered adjustments, they weren't grossly different.

I wanted to add that I had a similar experience with back pain and discomfort with other BMW seats (BMW iX and BMW i4). The seats in the i5 are extremely different from these two models.

Sport seats do not have adjustable side supports for passenger side but do for

Trevor wrote the above quote. I have the sport seats in my 530i. Wondering how I can adjust the side supports on the driver’s side? Any info? Thx!

In the iDrive under seat comfort you can adjust the side supports.
