never noticed this, but why is there only steam coming out of one exhaust pipe?
It was the first time that the temperature dipped below 20 since I got the X1 back in April. I had it warming up with my garage door open and walked back into the house to finish my coffee. I could not remote start it because the car said I had too little gas left(30 miles range remaining)
While I was looking out the kitchen window, I noticed that only one side of the rear was spewing out steam. When I went outside again and look underneath the car, the other exhaust pipes was not spewing out anything at all. Is this unusual? |

Most of the time on cars with twin exhausts one of the pipes remains closed off until you put it in sports mode. There’s a valve inside that opens when you put it in sport.

Thanks! Does that mean the exhaust will be louder when I put it in sport mode? I'll have to try that tomorrow morning!

There are cars that have fake exhaust tips to make the rear symmetrical.
Sport mode on nearly every car is nothing more than throttle mapping and gear shift adjustments to make the vehicle more responsive to throttle input. The downside to this is fuel use. Fuel economy suffers. |
