Anyone's CarPlay working in ID9?
There are a couple threads on this forum regarding CarPlay not working correctly. There is a limited population of us with ID9 and I am curious if anyone’s CarPlay is actually working correctly?
Ours has intermittent interruptions of 1-10 seconds every time we drive the vehicle. It also completely drops the phone connection periodically. We tried all the normal fixes of restarting ID9, deleting the phone and reconnecting, updating to the latest ID9 release, updating to the latest IOS, etc. Our M35i is at the dealership now for this and they were able to duplicate the problem. They are following the normal diagnostic protocol and are being great to work with. The question I have is centered around whether BMW has any 2024 X1 (ID9) models with a consistently functioning CarPlay connection? I am trying to determine if this is systemic or if replacing head unit have a chance to remedy the issue in the near term. I am hoping that are actually correctly functioning ID9s out there to have some light at the end of the tunnel. |

And it does do the thing where it will stop playing audio for a few seconds once in a while. My wife's 2018 X3 did this for a while and eventually, it stopped happening... not sure why or how. Please keep us informed on what the dealer finds.

Is there a way to force a recheck? When I run the check in the car or refresh the page on the app on my phone it says up to date at 07/2023.72.

Same here...
Sometimes it won’t connect and needs to be done manually Music will stutter at least once every 2-3 min Usually on the first phone call I make it will drop the connection it within a minute of the call and reset. Then it goes to the phone and then it reconnects. This one I find the most annoying |

The dealer has ordered a new headunit. There is zero stock globally, so it may be a while before the part arrives. The dealership confirmed that Android Auto also drops the connection frequently, so it is not just CarPlay. The vehicle is coming back to us basically with no real changes as the software update did not improve the connection. The dealership is doing everything they can so far and hopefully BMW comes up with a real solution sooner than later.

Thanks for the response. Are you sure you have ID9? All 2023 X1s that I am aware of are on ID8, which sounds like a better system based on the issues many are having, so be thankful if you are on ID8!

I can confirm as one other person mentioned that 11/2023.30 does not improve the connection issues. CarPlay actually seems worse with this upgrade. It is cutting in and out every couple minutes now. It also almost completely drops the connection to the phone roughly every 10 minutes now and almost every time on a call. It could also just be the fact that the frequent drops are becoming more annoying, but the update certainly has not improved the CarPlay connection.

I got the call today from the service manager that there is a new update out and available from dealer install only.
They are picking up the car on Wednesday to have it uploaded into the car to hopefully fix the issue, but the master tech there thinks this issue will need a hardware upgrade. will update when I receive it back. |

For what it’s worth mine started having minor issues on ID8 recently. Every once in a while it’ll disconnect and reconnect itself from the infotainment system, and sometimes when it comes back the CarPlay screen is black, requiring a restart of the system or turning the car on and off. And in certain areas while I’m driving the music will cut in and out, almost as if I’m listening to the radio in poor reception even though the music is all stored locally on my phone. I only noticed this happening after I upgraded my phone to the 15 Pro Max and on iOS17, so it could be a bug on Apple’s end.

I've had Carplay connectivity issues from day 1 with my M35i and I switched to using BMW Maps with Spotify (on ID9) for my music. It has worked very well so far. Maps/traffic data are pretty good and its relatively easy to send routes to your car from the My BMW app. I'd encourage people to try cutting the Carplay cord.

[QUOTE=justridebike;30749726]I've had Carplay connectivity issues from day 1 with my M35i and I switched to using BMW Maps with Spotify (on ID9) for my music. It has worked very well so far. I started a similar approach to see how it works last night using the iPhone, but not with CarPlay. The connection interrupted after about 10 seconds into streaming music via Spotify, but worked consistently the next 20 minutes of driving. I plan to continue to test this the next few days even though it is more of a workaround. I haven’t set up the Spotify app ID9 yet, but will try this over the next few days. I also tried the new navigation system in ID9. On the first try to go “home” it worked well including the augmented aspects, but loading a destination that I didn’t have the address for didn’t work well. Basically I had to get the address from Google maps and paste it into the myBMW app to find the business. I am going to continue trying this to get more experience and to see if I can become efficient at it. The issue with this is that this is supposed to be my wife’s vehicle and she is not overly tech savvy. She manages Google maps and Waze well, but this interface is not as easy to use (yet) and I would like my X3 M40 back! She won’t drive the X1 until she can efficiently and consistently use navigation, make calls without interruptions and can feel safe driving in with the ASS lag, which is a separate issue. She is constantly on the phone and visiting customer facilities (using Waze), so a reliable interface is very important for her. CarPlay should just work on this vehicle. It works on our other 3 BMWs, a Chevrolet and a Toyota with zero issues. Only the X1 has issues. I don’t mean that as a rant to you, the whole situation is frustrating on a brand new BMW. |

You can search for an address/business in google maps and then hit the share button (looks like a box with an upward arrow) and share it to the My BMW app. I've found that is the fastest approach.

Agreed that’s the fastest approach if the app doesn’t find the location directly.
