auto stop/off memory

My auto stop /off button has been off since I got my car and it has stayed that way for the past month. For some reason today though when I switch to m1 or m2 and got back to comfort it switches back on. Weird it didn’t do this before. I have bimmercode as well and ideas how to keep it off permanently .

Maybe the car did an update and that would have reverted your coding back to default. There should be an option to disable start/stop for each of your M button modes (depending on the settings you’ve picked for engine in each) or you could just disable it via Bimmercode by changing that second listing to Disabled or Not Active.

When I got into the m modes it turns it off but when I hit the button to go back to comfort it turns the auto stop back on. Weird cause it never did that before.

Ok I figured it out now. I disabled it in bimmercode and it stays off when I switch out from the m modes. Thank you

Yeah, unless you had a recent update lately, nothing behavior wise should have changed. It depends on how long you’ve had the car. The default on startup seems to be Comfort and I want to say all newer software reverts the state of Start/Stop to back On on every startup now no matter what. I don’t think previous versions would maintain the last state (even in Comfort) when you restarted, but it’s possible. Either that or you’ve changed your way of doing things where it could have maintained the set in Comfort for disabled but would re-enable itself if you flipped out of M1/2 in the same drive cycle (something you maybe weren’t doing before). Some new variable somewhere was introduced if the behavior you were seeing truly did change. Anyway, glad you got it fixed.

That’s the thing, I didn’t touch anything ha. It was at the dealer getting the bumper fixed so who knows.

They probably scanned it and updated software. That’s most likely what caused it to go back to default, if you had previously coded it to disable this. Even if they don’t update the software, there is still a check for expected vs actual settings and they can push expected back onto the car if they connect to it.

I just got back from the dealer for my 1200 service and I told them about my infotainment system locking up and they applied 11/2023. Unlike 7/2023, this time all my coding was wiped. 7/2023 was a remote update. 11/2023 was at the dealer. Perhaps that is why 7/2023 did not wipe my coding? I went back and recoded everything including disabling auto start/stop. The dealer gave me a ‘23 7 series as a loaner while my car was being serviced and I could not figure out how to turn auto start/stop off and it was maddening.

I haven’t tested since my car defaults to off, but someone said the default behavior will save with your seat memory.

I believe it’s this although you said you already resolved via coding.

I had it randomly not sticking in my selected setting after months of it being normal. Re-saved seats with it off and it never switched back afterwards

No one needs to code this option. All M cars have Auto Stop/Start memory as a factory option.

After software updates or first receiving your car, it may not remember the setting for the first couple drives. After a day or two, it'll stay off.

For everyone Googling this issue. This is the right answer.

Consider the coding option “Auto start stop button memory” from Bimmercode. I did not have this option from factory, as I live in Europe. I have a 02/2022 M3CX with the latest software at the time of writing. US spec models seem to have this option from the factory. Doesn’t really matter anyway since we can just code it.

After coding this option to active, it still does not work. You’ll have to wait a few days / power cycle(?) for the option to start working. After that, you can switch off your M1 or M2 button preset and the fallback will have remembered your last start/stop setting. If it was off, it will stay off after disengaging M1 or M2.

Disconnect the battery for 10 minutes then check that all the settings are right.

I thought I was going fkin nuts lol It just started doing that a couple weeks ago. I checked the settings 30 times and it kept doing it lol reset and good to go.

I can tell you the car has its own mind. I did not have any update for the last 2 years. Coded Auto start stop off via bimmercode since new and it was staying that way and one day, it just turned back on for no reason (no dealer visit, no update, no work on the car the previous day at all, just normal driving).

And the next day it suddenly turned back on start stop. I had to use bimmercode to toggle on and off to get it working again. Go figure...
