2024 - Auto Start stop disable?
Hey guys
There's been many post about not being able to disable auto start/stop in the 2023 version, with work arounds to change to sport mode and shortcut programs via OBD. I have read on somewhere on line that the 2024 regular and M version does have this on their manual and option console. Can someone confirm? Thanks! |

I have tried many options to disable the ASS on our M35i. So far all of them reset themselves when you restart the vehicle and are not very simple. The options I found and caveats with each are:
1. Create a shortcut to the ASS disable. This requires a swipe down, press of the shortcut to get to the menu and then pressing the disable ASS once button. This option works the best in my opinion as it does not change any other function, but takes too long to get to it especially considering you have to get ID9 to startup and to get past the disclaimer message. 2. Switch to sport mode. This requires two selections (mode button on center console and sport setting on the touch screen. This changes all functions of the vehicle to sport mode. (Throttle mapping, shifting parameters, gauge displays, etc). 3. Pull back on the shift lever an additional time to toggle the drivetrain between sport and comfort. This seems to put just the drivetrain into sport mode and not the other features of sport mode. This can be toggled between regular “D” and “S1,2,etc.) and it’s pretty quick. The challenge is always remembering to pull the lever before you need to get moving quickly. This is fastest method I have found with the negatives of finding myself switching between D and S frequently. I thought I might have a winner by customizing sport mode settings to have the powertrain in comfort mode. My hope was that I could shift into sport mode by switching the shift lever to defeat ASS (one action), but get the comfort shifting and throttle mapping. What I learned is that pulling the lever only appears to adjust the powertrain into sport mode. It doesn’t affect other parameters regardless of how you have customized sport mode. I also learned that when you customize sport mode to have the drivetrain in comfort, the ASS comes back on. I have yet to find a way to not have ASS enabled and the drivetrain be in comfort settings outside of option 1 above. If anyone else has found another work around please share your findings. |

the only other possibilities are: (1) BMW adds this as a paid feature in the Connected Store and charges $5 to $10 a month (2) coding becomes possible.(also extremely unlikely) (3) acquire a trunk monkey and train him to disable ASS whenever I drive (4) keep AC at maximum cold all the time, which seemed to have worked when it was warm... as the car kept the engine running continuously |

If you’re really into minimizing interactions, originally I did one swipe down and then two pushes to disable ASS. Now it’s one swipe down and then only one push as I believe I was able to cascade the last button forward so all of this to disable is not so bad all things considering.

surely it's possible to disable it permanently using the diagnostic computer at the dealer, but I'm guessing that they will absolutely not do this for liability reasons.
manufacturers(car or phone) really hate it when customers try to circumvent things... before iOS 16, it was possible for CarPlay to play YouTube videos and even view live video on the Ring door cam app when my jailbroken iPhone 12 Pro was paired to the Lexus infotainment screen.(even when the vehicle was in motion) after iOS 17, nobody has figured out how to do it yet. |

I’ll be out of the country for 4 more days and if no one else responded, I’ll take a look. It’s very similar to what we currently do by holding the button and sending it to an empty shortcut position but I was just messing around and I believe you have to get further down to the last screen step to disable ASS and I held the button to send it forward. It’s been 8 months too since I did it but one swipe and one touch and ASS is disabled.

Thank you! I followed your suggestion and added the "Activate" button to my drop-down menu. So now it's just one swipe down and press to disable ASS. So much easier this way. can't believe this... after 8 months, I never realized that the "Deactivate this" button could be added as a shortcut. (edit: apparently this only works for X1 running vintage iDrive 8 software) Last edited by SpaceSilver.X1; 12-29-2023 at 01:29 PM.. |

For ID9 which the 2024 model should have (at least mine does) holding the deactivate once does not give you the option for adding a shortcut. Anyone found a workaround on ID9?

Same here. Looks like we are stuck with a three step process. It will become an easy routine after a while.

After waiting like 2 minutes for the ID9 to wake up. Super annoyed and underwhelmed with the ID9 system. Hoping for big improvements in future updates.

I don't find it aggressive at all. I think it's milder on the X1 than previous vehicles. I don't know what you guys are doing when you're driving but I barely ever even notice it.
