Adding High Beam Assist in Connected Drive
Ive opted in for the High Beam Assist in connected drive and this appears on my car connected drive as applied but I havent had the message to activate it after a couple of 15 minute plus drives.
On the BMW site it does say that 'You’ll need a stable internet connection with adequate reception. What does that mean? My car is parked outside my house and probably in range of wifi Last edited by Yorksdales66; 01-06-2024 at 01:51 PM.. |

Have you tried a reboot of the iDrive, that seems to resolve a lot of the issues.

Sometimes it does not get activated for 3 or even 5 days.(in which case, I called BMW USA and they added a week to the monthly subscription to make up for it) However, sometimes after I add a subscription, it gets activated even before I walk down into my garage. Seems totally random or maybe their servers just get updated whenever they feel like it. |

I subscribed to the traffic camera info and it took a few days to fully activate.

HBA came on after 6 days. I didnt get an activation notice, I went into the Exterior Lights app in idrive and switched the HBA option on and it came on. I had tried doing this a couple of days earlier and it didnt work despite saying it was active on the Connected Drive app. It seems it was just a matter of waiting.
I had HBA on the Lexus I had previously and have it on my existing MINI and the X1 HBA is different to both in that it recognises built up areas and switches high beam off at speeds lower than about 25mph. It seems to work well enough though. As I am used to HBA on my previous cars I will be adding it to the X1 Last edited by Yorksdales66; 01-10-2024 at 04:36 PM.. |

as for high beam assist, my X1 came with it. It works great 80% of the time. Unfortunately, it sometimes turn the high beams off a the worst time where there are no cars around. (for example, on a dark winding country road near me... there are some houses with two lights at the end of their driveways and the HBA frequently mistakenly think those are car headlights) |

I "discovered" the solution. I have a better assistant who turn high beams on and off as necessary.(at least remember to turn off high beam 99.9% of the time where there's on-coming traffic) The high beams are also never turn off when I'm still coming out of a curve with no traffic. He's also free. Well.. not exactly.. he does spend too much money and I can't avoid seeing him whenever I look into the mirror. He also looks exactly like me. basically I'm a believer in the old saying “If you want something done right, do it yourself” in this case, I'm probably the best person to control the high beams. don't know whatever happened to it, but many years ago(1990s?), Mercedes had a crazy idea of an automatic car horn activator. if the sensors detect pedestrians, bicyclists or cars next to your about to get into your lane, the horn is automatically sounded, with varying intensity. I remember thinking "oh great, as if New York City isn't noisy enough already!" (full disclosure: when I was young and stupid, I was really into car horns and finally ended up with train horns installed under the bonnet of my old Ford Granada) |

Ive paid for unlimited subscription to HBA. The main reason being ive had it on my cars for the past 8 years and am used to using it.
I think you either use HBA or you operate main beam yourself. I dont think you can sometimes use both HBA and manual as Ive tried that on my Lexus and end up dazzling people when I thought HBA was on. If it had been summer maybe I wouldnt have subscribed to HBA but im driving to and from work in the dark at the moment. |

The green indicator light in the instrument cluster is illuminated when the low-beam headlight is switched on. The system will switch automatically between low-beam headlight and high-beam headlight.
The blue indicator light in the instrument cluster illuminates if the high-beam headlight is switched on by the system. The High-beam Assistant is deactivated by switching the high-beams on and off manually. Press the turn indicator lever forwards, or pull the turn indicator lever backwards if the high-beam headlight is switched on. To reactivate High-beam Assistant, press the turn indicator lever forwards. |

I'm too lazy to reach up to turn the interior lights, so I have been saying "hey BMW, turn on the interior lights" for the last several months. Not to mention that the capacitive touch-activated dome lights are not the most intuitive way to turn lights on/off by hand. |
