Unlock all doors not working

Hi all - new member here! I got my X1 2 weeks ago.

I have set the key to unlock all doors but it doesn't work on the driver's side.

If I put my hand under the passenger door handle all the doors unlock, but doing the same under the driver's door handle only that door unlocks.

I have iDrive 9 11/2023.25 installed.

Any suggestions please?

Here you go!

These instructions are for iDrive 8, but should be similar. If not, check your drivers manual

Thanks. I have double-checked all my settings, changed them and set them back and still no luck. Seems like it may be a bug.

Curious if using the fob, the digital card or your mobile?

Have you tried touching the door handle twice in a row?

I am seeing the same when unlocking with the phone from a distance. Despite the setting to unlock all doors, only the driver's door is unlocked.
However, when the setting to unlock all doors at the end of the trip is on, all the doors get to be unlocked as expected at the end of the trip.

I’ve tried it with the fob and the digital key on my iPhone.

No, but I will later! That wouldn’t be how I’d expect it to function, but if it works then that’ll do.

I’m actually not sure if that’s how it works, but I remember one of my cars was like that. On my digital key with my phone, all my doors unlock at once

I have exactly the same on my new X1 with iDrive9. I had the garage have a look and this is the way BMW now set it up. Apparently it is a security feature to prevent all four doors being opened by mistake. You either have to double click the key to open all doors or use the interior button after opening the driver’s door. However, if you hit unlock on the My BMW phone app it unlocks all doors. Strange logic!

If that’s the case then the id9 settings for Door need updating. As per the first reply above, I have it set to unlock all doors. The other option is drivers door only. The “security feature” explained by the garage is over-riding my settings!

For security reasons I’ve always set mine to just open the drivers side door. Then open the others using button on interior door panel.

This being my first BMW & having it just a few weeks, I can only compare it to my prior ACURA’s. They had a feature that could manually open all doors when you wanted to by touching the back door on drivers side with the FOB close by.

BTW within days of getting my 2024 X1 28i I changed the setting from opening up door(s) as I approached to opening when I touched either front door with FOB. I did this to avoid the constant opening/closing of doors & folding mirrors when I walked into my garage. Also a couple of times it did not recognize which of the 2 FOB’s approaching was the driver establishing settings that were not the driver at that time. Frustrating when the seat position moves so far up my knees hit the dash. (My wife is 8” shorter)

With the settings set to unlock all doors:

- unlocking at a distance with the phone or the fob presence unlocks the driver door only,

- unlocking from the digital wallet on iPhone unlocks the driver door only,

- unlocking from the BMW App on the iPhone does unlock all the doors

- unlocking with the fob by pressing once unlocks only the driver door, but twice unlocks all doors, but this is "old" behavior.

I've found the answer (well, it's a theory I read in another forum that makes logical sense anyway).

The functionality works as if it is LHD. It doesn't work for me because I'm in the UK with a RHD car and BMW haven't coded for that yet.

Hopefully it'll be included in a future software update.

one day, BMW will finally figure out how to make the center armrest cover open from the right for RHD cars.

I collected my x1 m35i on Sat (car came with iDrive 9 on 11/2024.42.) and it did this twice - exactly the same problem only the drivers door and then when i went to the passenger it unlocked all.

I went to door settings and ticked it to drivers only and then back to all - been fine ever since.

I drive into Windsor to buy several boxes of Corn Pops once in a while... because the Canadian version of Corn Pops is way better than the US version.

Have a 24’ M35i and had this same issue with Comfort Access only unlocking the driver’s door. Had my ID9 Lock/Unlock settings set to unlock all doors, but still was not working. Discovered it was the Apple Digital Wallet key causing the issue. If you’re an iPhone user, go to your Wallet>BMW key>Info button(Top right corner). Disable ‘Passive Entry’ and the Comfort Access will work as setup in ID9 settings.

Had a similar issue when we first received our M35i. Found that you had to link your profile to the digital key, PAAK and each individual key fobs to get the setting to be retained. The setting to unlock all four doors and many other settings are based on which device is detected when the door is unlocked.
