55L from memory. You won’t regret getting into a 18d or 23d they are both fantastic and I’m averaging 59mpg and getting 750 miles from my 18d Msport. My thoughts below…

I like knowing if i’m being chased down “Mission impossible” style I can keep going and outlast almost anyone 😉 Lands end to John OG
54L I stand corrected, but a total no brainer for £55, I always go for largest tank possible 👍 |

hold on a minute... that's 837 miles... you will have to stop for gas somewhere! (edit: sorry, I meant stop for diesel)

I have full confidence in you... just do what the hypermilers do and surely you can complete that 837-mile road trip without having to refuel. Seems like a Top Gear challenge.

location of the extension
Does the 9L extension (45L to 54L) mean losing space in the boot, and if so, where?
(I've already opted for the extension, but I haven't clarified this point) Thank you |

I have the extended tank and from what I have seen, it doesn't take up anymore boot space so I assume it uses free space under the car.
I must admit to being a bit disappointed. My last two 2.0litre cars (both VW) both had 60 litre tanks as standard. I assumed this large tank on the BMW would give nearer to 70 litre capacity. I was really surprised that it only increased the capacity to 54 litres. However, having the petrol version of the X1, a full tank gets between 450 and 500 miles whereas, the VW got around 350 miles with a 60 litre tank for similar performance. Obviously the mild hybrid makes a difference but I understand 2.0 litre VW/Audi petrol engines are the not the most economical engines out there. |

Just as a reference... I have the 54L tank in my X-Drive 23d and get roughly 1100km (684 miles) on a full tank. I have a bit of a lead foot though - I drive average 160 km/h on the Autobahn in comfort mode. According to the car, my driving habits make 5.9-6.0 L/100Km or 47mpg.
750 Miles (or more) - as stated by aydarks - on a tank can be achieved if I were going 120 km/h in eco mode. But I didn't buy this car for that. |

average month consumption on my panel is 5.2 litre/100 km, that electro engine helps very much in consumption, it is cca 1 liter /100 km better then car with no electro engine.
those numbers are from long trip, I filled up in Germany and drove straight to Paris without stopping, about 130km/h max, but many km with lower speed (no highway). And i did 1001 km on one tank. Last edited by cOBRaX; 05-24-2024 at 01:39 PM.. |

I do 59mpg as a total average since factory over 5500 miles and get over 750 miles a 54l tank however If I do a 3hr motoroway trip at 70-75mph I usually can do 65-70mpg. The 18d is the cheapest and most economical engine in the range and is still plenty punchy and refined enough for most drivers.
I’m amazed that the petrol hybrid can do 60mpg on any trip, that’s not my experience of it (more like 50mpg max and low 40s mpg as an overall average) but at the end of tbe day the best way of comparison is the overall average comsumption since factory once several thousand miles have been driven in all motoring and weather conditions If you want real world comparisons then check out the https://www.spritmonitor.de/en/ website as it gives many examples of what is achievable by motorists. |

you can check advanced statistics in BMW app and i have last month cca 2500 km with 5.2 l/100 km. best drive with only 3l/100km by this app. but this car is driving my wife and most of time she is going few km a day.
ps. with my 2.0 diesel mercedes, i have 6.0l/100 km, then gasoline BMW is better then my long trip car, diesel mercedes |

Be great if you can post a photo of the live trip data which shows MPG since factory. I’m intrigued that the petrol engine can perform to that economy level as an overall average over thousands of miles. I test drove both petrol and diesel base engines over a long test route (circa 100 miles mostly motorway) and the petrol was more than 15 miles per gallon worse.
