iX1 - Steering wheel vibration
I took my car in to the dealer to investigate a small vibration of the steering wheel when stationary whilst waiting at traffic lights.
Turns out BMW have mounted one of the heat pump motors to the steering rack so when it’s working hard you can feel the vibration through the wheel! Would only be noticeable in an electric model as the engine or even normal road vibrations whilst moving drown it out. What a strange decision to mount the pump there…

I remember on a prior BMW I could feel the wipers via the steering wheel due to the way the motor was mounted, always gave an unhelpful feeling when they were on and you stopped.

Any news here?
I also encounter steering wheel vibration with my iX1, especially when driving around 80 km/h. I thought this was due to unbalanced winter tires, but it remains the same with summer tires. Did anyone talk to the dealer or come up with a solution (new heat pump or dampers)? |
