Can New X1 seats be swapped out with older model X1 seats?
I'm looking at purchasing a new car. The 2023/2024 BMW X1 is one i like the size and technology - but HATE the new seats (what where they thinking?!?!?!?!) - so, am wondering, is it possible to switch out these new hideous seats with an older model seat? (seriously, the seats are a deal-breaker)

Not at all. After some hard negotiating, I managed to swap mine for a couple of beanbags.

And in all seriousness, the seats in the wife's X1 are some of the best and most comfortable in ANY BMW I've owned over the years they are great. Would I want the ones from the old X1 in there, hell no. |

I have been thinking about this after my initial flippant comment and i’m coming around to the swapping idea.
I’m thinking a bunch of ducks from our pond, because is there anything as comfy as duck down? 🦆 |

I’ve been considering replacing mine with a couple of shop stools, it makes having a face to face conversation with the rear passengers much more convenient.

No, the seats and the air bag system are all interdependent. Even aftermarket seats are a bad idea because there is so much engineering and sensors designed into the OEM seats

They are the worst. I wanted the loaded premium model x1, all I really wanted in a new car was a heads up display, but could not find one. the sales guy said the only difference between that and the base model was the heads up display. I had to buy a car and get back to my 89 year old mom, so I did. Sales guysÂ… so, where is the lumbar adjustment button? On., there is not one. The most hard, uncomfortable seats ever. No idea what to do with the head rest. It hits my head directly at the spot in the back of my head that gives me a headache.
I had to get back to mom 700 miles away. At first I sat on a pillow & used a lawn chair head cushion in the lumbar support area. I havenÂ’t bought a new car in so many years. Mostly because car sales men are so awful. What do you want your car payments to be. That question always kills me. Ah, how much is the car? 3/4 of the way I removed the pillow. Such terrible uncomfortable seats. I am so disappointed in my car choice. The best part of this new car is the side mirrors that close when you lock the door but do not open when you unlock them. Is this a bug? I work in IT. The last thing I want is a car that relies on software to do anything because I know how buggy and bad software can be. This thing responds so slow and buggy. How many times and for how long do I have to hold my leg under the back hatch door to get it to open? Much faster just to find the button to open it. At one point I was veering onto the highway on the left, the car jerked me onto the shoulder on the right. Omg, what was that about? It only did that once the 700 miles I drove, but I was a little paranoid it would do that again the entire trip. The new car has bad alignment. It did not travel straight. The lane departure warning kept going off & beeped far too long while I was driving perfectly straight in the middle of the lane. I thought that might have something to do with the wonky side mirrors that I had to manually force open to start my trip. I could not very well drive 700 miles with the side view mirrors closed. I canÂ’t wait to trade in this base model bmw. My next car will have comfortable seats and knobs to turn to control things. How do you open the side mirrors if they donÂ’t open on their own when you unlock the car? Also, hey bmw did not understand the sales guy when he told it to turn on the heated seats. & it did not understand most of what I asked it other than what time is it? |

Another first post. What's next, the seats in the BYD are so comfortable. I used to be wheelchair bound, but now I can walk again.

It’s a good chuckle to be fair, and even if it is real the moral of the story is don’t buy base models and if you want an old school car with less tech and more buttons, don’t buy a new model 2024 SUV because today they make cars like computers, buy an old model (such as the current X2 before it’s superseded).

the obvious choice is the 2024 Toyota 4Runner! It has everything that one can want in a car... from 1999. Looks the same, drives about the same... old school gearshifter, 4 liter 6-cylinder engine, big buttons... no stupid engine auto stop/start system. The seats are also definitely old style... again from 1999 or earlier. The infotainment screen also looks like it's from 1999. |

Is chat GPT that bad?
No doubt that new cars (in the premium segment at least) have too many features imo, luckily my id9 is not causing me any issues whatsoever BUT i have to say there are far too many “configurations” possible. Who wants most of these options, when you want your mirrors to close, locks to open, lights to flash etc etc etc. i’m only in my early 50s and am pretty tech savvy but tbh I really only care about how the car looks and drives, how comfortable and fuel efficient it is. I don’t want or need it to be like my phone and my wife is never happy when I have to use the screen when driving to change something (because it is of course not totally safe to do so) I do feel lucky that mine is behaving itself BUT of course I may be a software update away from disaster (which is why I haven’t updated my software ) |
