BMW continuing watering down the M brand
So carbon roofs should be an M product exclusive, only not being thrown around on non-M cars. This is just ridiculous. Another reason why Bmw is looking to just make money.

Rinse and repeat. BMW is bout that money, who wouldnt be |

Who cares? The CF roof is stupid anyway. No significant benefit and turns out to be a costly disaster when they delaminate after getting rock chips or UV etc. The only interesting CF roof they ever did is the M2 CS true sandwich carbon roof, except their vendor messed that one up so much they won't ever try it again.

Or maybe there are trying to make the car perform, look, and sell better.
I find it incredible how many people on this forum are so quick to judge everything new or different. I too agree that BMW is diluting the M branding way to much. However they are adding carbon fibre roofs, big brakes, ect.... to sell more cars and making them available to more people. Does that hurt you, or the car you already have? If you don't like it, then don't buy it. |

their marketing and line up will be as follows
Base car M performance M comp car M performance will take over the current M placement in the line up Current M placement will only be made in Comp models. Base M performance M Comp that being said you will start to see more "M" only items hitting their New M performance line up that replaces it

as long as BMW doesn't dilute the Alpina brand in the near future... because I hope to buy a real Alpina one day.

The m240 is almost preferred over the m2 now, perhaps they're on to something.

I wouldn't say that a carbon roof is a M signature item.
The M performance accessory line is BMW going after $$$ that they use to leave on the table for aftermarket brands. I usually prefer OE so I see it as a good thing as long as it is form over function. Perhaps BMW is offering the roofs on other models so that can increase volume and reduce costs. Also having them on more models will help to surface and confirm problems so they can improve over time. Both of these things will benefit M cars. Or maybe it's a secret plot to stop making cars w/sunroofs & moonroofs. hummm Last edited by omasou; 02-01-2024 at 03:51 PM.. |

We should just be honest with ourselves....all bets are off with the M brand, it's clear nothing will be held back in the future for the true M models. For better or worse, BMW no longer cares about anything except what sells.

Hey I'm all about capitalism and it looks like BMW is making money and that is a good thing. I am disappointed with a lot of their directions and I'm pretty confident that they will regret the "all" in for EV's thing, It will be a mixed market for ever.
But I got my 2020 M4CS so I'm good and I'm going to concede that BMW is right and I'm wrong and the world is moving past me so you will find me on my porch yelling at the neighborhood kids to get off my lawn and on nice days I'll be in the M4 happily living in the past. |

Not sure about diluting the M brand. Current M cars have more carbon fiber than they ever have. I simply look at it as BMW making their M sport models better which is a good thing for the consumer. The amount of faux outrage on this forum never ceases to amaze.

Honest question, what's worse?
A. Putting a carbon roof on everything. B. Inflating every ///M car in the universe to over 4k lbs and pretending the CF roof does anything at all. Why even pretend they care about weight any longer? All the G8x piggies need a massive diet. |

It’s already been proven and that Porsche who doesn’t really care but the carbon roof reduces weight and it reduces the center of gravity on the car. My M4 F82 feels lighter and more nimble versus the convertible version and I might just because the convertible is a lot heavier, but the carbon roof models definitely feel more nimble. My MY M2C with sunroof feels a lot heavier than my M4. I’m sorry but if you’re spending close to $100,000 nowadays to get a performance car, it should feel special it should feel unique. However now it looks like you’re gonna have to spend double that to get something that feels really unique and really special.

I fail to see how what they do to an M240i has any affect on how much I like my M3? It doesn’t affect the way it looks, drives, or the experience at all. If you buy an M just for the carbon roof, then it’s a good thing. Go buy the M240i with a carbon roof and save yourself 50k.

Who really cares if BMW makes carbon roofs an option for M light cars. Lots of M cars don’t have a carbon roof. Doesn’t effect the way I feel about my M2.

Oddly, the M2 is a car that should appeal to someone like me. I own an E82 128i Msport stick, I lust after a 1M, and I liked the Gen1 M2. I just can't get my head around what they've done to the new one. If the M240i came in a stick, there would be no need for the M2. |
