Tips for cleaning the display

I tried to clean all the fingerprints off the display but found it's hard to do when the display is turned on. Wiping the display tends to activate some of the options or apps which is not ideal in case it changes a setting Similar to cleaning a laptop keyboard/trackpad when the laptop is on.

I tried turning off the display using that option but when I touched it again it came back on.

I tried leaving the car open and leaving the key inside the house but when I open the passenger door all the displays still come on.

I'm curious how everyone else cleans that display when it seems it always wants to be on.

You could try putting it in deep sleep mode.

I think if you turn the engine on, turn it off, then open the driver's door the screen will stay off unless you close and open the door again?

The automatic turning on everything all the time is pretty annoying. Would be nice if there was a setting that made things only turn on/off with the ignition button.

Thanks. Will try sleep mode. I found opening the driver's door only disables the display after finishing a trip and not if the vehicle hasn't been started/stopped (unless I've missed a setting or it has something to do with the seatbelt)

I agree, the "always on" is annoying in more ways than this.

Hoping someone has a solution.

I use a microfiber towel folded into fourths and haven't had any issues with the touch display.

If you put a glass screen protector on the display it's a lot easier to clean. I got one off of Amazon that is one giant piece. Hard to apply, but nice once it's done. Cleaning the stock matte surface is pretty difficult after even just a couple weeks of use.

I will be watching this thread also.

Annoyingly, I did have a touch screen cloth that worked without activating the screen, but I can't find it, or remember what make it was.

Do it when the car is off. At the end of your drive, hold down the console volume button, and the displays will shut down.

I have an iX1. The radio goes to deep sleep after some 10-15 minutes or whatever. I just do the wiping then

But it wakes back up when you open the door.

That might be the solution. Use a thicker cloth to prevent the screen from detecting the fingers.

Sure, would be nice to be able to disable it on demand for cleaning and other tasks inside the vehicle.

I got a pack of oversized (12x12") white microfiber lens cloths a while back on Amazon that I love. They are perfect for cleaning big touch screens, sunglasses, laptop screens etc., and are easy to store in the glove compartment. I try to avoid using sprays/chemicals on the touch screen and displays, and just dampen the cloth with some water when necessary. I recommend white/undyed in case you need to dampen.

Some similar options available on Amazon:
Zeiss 12x16" microfiber cloth (2 pack)
Elite Tech Gear 12x12" microfiber cloth (multiple quantities)

Also, for general dusting of the interior/dash I love the Carcarez edgeless plush microfiber towels. They are really handy, but can leave fibers on glass/exterior when the surface is wet.

I just swipe down the screen and there is an option to turn screen off under the shortcuts, that’s on ID8 though.

Same on ID9 but as I mentioned earlier, I tried turning off the display using that option but when I touched it again it came back on.

I think the only way you can guarantee it not coming back on is when getting back from driving somewhere, turn off the car, open the driver's door, leave it open, don't open other doors, and clean away. Either that or unplug the car battery.

It really is such stupid behavior, my car was sitting in my garage all day, I just opened the passenger side door to get something without a key on me and all the dashboard stuff turns on. Not sure who thought that was a good idea.

I just tried it on mine again and it didn’t come back on when I wiped it with a microfibre cloth, only when I touched it with my finger did it come back on just like my iPhone screen.

It's likely because I'm using a lens wipe so there's no padding between fingers and screen. Will test again using something padded to keep display form sensing the fingers.
