Aware of this topic in drips on various forums but just wanted to say after 7 months, countless trips to the service centre and million emails and calls later, Drive Recorder had finally working on my iDrive 9 since Friday 23rd Feb. I’m on 11/2023.42. Interestingly, the someone from the dealership rang me the day before claiming they had received instructions from BMW on how to get the Drive Recorder to work. He said he would call me the following to go through it. The next day I was browsing around with the apps and noticed the Drive Recorder app just magically appear. No software updates.

Anyways the dealership did call and I just explained it’s now showing and only thing he said was BMW pushed out a software update. But I’m still on the same version I was on before so not sure what’s going on.

Works pretty well. For the front camera, it uses the camera between the grills instead of the windscreen camera. Would’ve preferred the windscreen camera as it’s higher up and less likely to be dirty.

My only complaint is that if you want continuous recording, it has to be activated manually by long pressing the camera button on the centre console. Would be great if there was an option to record soon as the engine is started. Also don’t think it records audio.

Similar experience here. No trace Of driver corder here on my car either since picking up back in December. I did an over the air update (07.23) soon after the getting the car with no change.

I finally got it back into the dealer where they were able to load update, 11.23.56 and driver recorder, then showed up as a service that was marked as active, but there was no app anywhere to be found. After talking to a few people at the dealer with no luck, after about five days, it all of a sudden showed up.

Super weird, they suggested that what it might be is that once the service is seen as active, it may take a few days for the service to end up, actually showing as active to the car to make the app visible or something ridiculous like that.

TLDR: pretty much same here.

Driver Recorder was showing active on my car since last week of December 2023 when it received the dealership software update. App only showed up almost 2 months later.

Now sure if BMW have a handle on this as the responses all seem varied.
