11/2023 OTA Update

Just had notification of a new OTA update of 11/2023, not installed it yet anyone else seen the same? It was a 400mb update to the phone app, will try and install it tomorrow.

Mentions new light animations but not idea if they are for the X1 or not. A few enhancements to the adaptive driving it will now notice red lights apparently.

I’m sure there will be more in it than that, first OTA in a while.

I've installed it some days ago. The only thing that i've noticed is that they fixed some icon issues on main/hud (some icons appeared cut before). Probably it is just a bugfix release.

All updated no issues that have been noted. It got a bit confused as it started to update, boot wouldn’t close the car literally just went asleep. Had to push it closed and the app thought it was open. When it finished all was normal.

Not noticed anything different.

Don’t know how widespread the latest update was but on the East coast of USA we received latest 3/2024.30 OTA update around the 19th or 20th of March.

Normally BMW wait for OTA updates for 3-6 months after they are released. Normally it's only provided as a dealer update in case of any issues at first.

I just installed the update. My Oct 2023 X1 has always been on 07/2023.45. This updated it to 11/2023.73.

Reading the release notes it adds some notifications of wrong way streets and right turn on reds. Does anyone know how this works? Do you have to be actively navigating with the BMW navigation or is it always active?

I feel like the interface is a bit less laggy with the update too.

At least for my occurrences, if you are on CarPlay it will still alert you of a street warning sign, a lot of times it’s wrong but the camera detects it some where, sometimes it will show even if the yield sign is for an on comer.

I tend to ignore the notifications and haven’t found a way to disable the alert sound

My car came with iDrive9 11/2023 and boot time was reeeeeeally slow. Just brought it in for its first oil change and asked dealer to upgrade software. They tested and noted the slow boot time (my main complaint was really car play dropping calls). After upgrading to 03/2024, boot time is incredibly fast. And car play doesn’t drop.

In short, 11/2023 likely wont fix boot time or car play, but if you can get 03/2024 from your dealer you should see a difference.

I just got a notice and installed the 2024/03 update.

But I received the 2023/11 update at my dealer a few months back and that had all the same fix effects that the props comment is listing as having been fixed on the 2024/03. Faster time no longer dropping calls on CarPlay. Not sure why the weird discrepancy in versions but that seem to fix all of those things for me.

Nice to hear that. My car already came with the 11/2023.28 version last December, so I’m not expecting a breakthrough with this update (11/2023.73). As you mentioned, it’s better to visit a dealer for a major update version.

I just ran the latest update last nite. The font in the instrument panel changed. Not sure if I like it it better. Seems an odd thing to change.

I just did the update on my X2, and it fixed the 'can't locate' error on the vehicle finder feature on the MY BMW app.

I just installed 11/2023.73 (received via OTA in France) and to my surprise, the boot time is much better!

I thought I would have to wait for 03/2024 so am really happy about that.

I have a 30e with iDrive 9 (iDrive 8 does not seem to have had the slow boot issue).

By the way, I have only read about one person getting the 03/2024 update via OTA so far in Europe and this was after being in contact with BMW support, so they may have pushed the update to that specific vehicle).

All other cases I have read about were dealer installed.

Maybe the updates don't sync in the UK ... it definitely did not change for me in a prior update.

I don't personally find it clearer.

A small change, which proper drivers will scoff at as unnecessary, but I quite like it - as you approach a red traffic light, the HUD and instrument display now show a traffic light immediately above the current speed limit, with the red enlarged, (even if you stop and don't get the traffic light warning icon which activates if you don't stop quickly enough); then this changes to green enlarged when the light changes, and if you don't move off, the car bongs to alert you to the green. I know one should pay attention at a red light, but there are times when a glance away means you miss the signal change, so it has some value ...
