Who’s installed the Rogue Engineering Short Shifter in their G87?

- How much did it increase effort?
I don’t want a stiffer shifter, but would like a shorter / more precise one.
- Did any of you use the adjustability function or just take the stock setting?
- Did you install the new Rogue rear mount too?

Looking for some feedback on how much more shifting effort is required on this shifter.

I did the SS install on my old 135i and it was not fun - I assume this is similar? Is it worse?

I have Rogue on my '98 Techno M3 and love it.

I'm planning to add one to my G87.

This car absolutely needs a short shifter. On my list. Would be great to hear from others who have it

I drove one with it, it’s very short. Like half the throw of my GT4, if that. Personally I will be going for autosolutions SSK which can be configured with the same rifle bolt action but longer throw. I had 20pc on my F87, I would go for 15pc on this which I think would put the throw similar to a GT4.

Sounds perfect with my usual latheworks TI piston. Have the renegade shifter in the s2000 with a CDV delete + ss lines + lightweight flywheel and it's excellent. It's hard to drive the M2 with how terrible the factory is. First mod was the BMS clutch pedal.

Install is on Wednesday, I should take some before/after throw videos for y'all. Have to find my protractor to measure angle too

Personally I am not a fan of very short throw gearboxes, on track especially it increases the chance of a miss shift. If you like it very short you will like the Rogue though for sure.

This is helpful - I don’t like super short-throw either. Nor do I like a lot of increased effort. It makes daily heavy-traffic commutes even more of a chore.

The good news: The throw is half the distance of the factory one

The bad news: The one I got either needs to be adjusted or sent back, as we can't get the ball to move and adjust the pivot point and it binds going into 5th and 6th.

See video here;

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1mGc...PAi6qeO9JjnEh/

Edit: Ok I looked at it a bit more, compare the length between the pivot point and the top of the rod, see attached pictures. It sits approx half an inch higher than the factory knob how it's currently configured and I can verify it binds on 3rd 5th and 6th;

https://drive.google.com/file/d/14-_...W3hO3DLMNBfaH/

It seems the only remedy is to lower the ball, or go with Rouge Engineering's suggestion which as follows;

Quote:
Yes, a dab of adhesive to prevent unwanted, potential movement or vibration. it could be broken free but you would need a vice to hold the ball...remove the lower pivot (setscrew) and then something in the bottom to turn it (3/4" rod would fit). A little heat would also help but careful to keep it away from the top of the lever.

Otherwise, the aluminum carrier could be filed away to make clearance for the 5th gear movement.
I'm gonna lower the ball .75" since I want a bit shorter lever and it should fix all the pivot point issues making contact with their OEM modified carrier.

Initial quality impressions:
6/10, booger welds, doesn't fit out of the box for a $600 product
shifts feel nicer when they don't bind (1 to 2)

Will follow up with another post once I get it shifting correctly.

Interesting, mine is going in tomorrow.

Would love to know what tips and tricks you might have in trying to solve the binding issue.

LMK if you figured out a solution to the problems!

I'm just gonna lower the ball. It looks like whoever was responsible for QC did not place it in quite the correct spot

Not trying to hijack here, but is there anything simple that can be replaced like a bushing on the shift bracket or something that will significantly stiffen the throw? I don't mind the length of it, but it just feels vague and mooshy. Would like to firm it up - similar to a Tremec T56.

Thanks!

Maybe their rear bushing? It seems like the biggest changes over this one and the factory unit are the ball and insert, and then the rear bushing assembly.

Thanks. If anyone has installed just the rear bushing, could you please give your input as to how it changed the shift feel, if at all.

Rogue SS kit and bracket installed, also did CDV delete.

Night and day difference in terms of shifting feel, engagement and clutch modulation.

Car drives MUCH better than stock.

No binding or issues whatsoever during install.

Highly recommend the kit and CDV removal combo

Take a picture of the ball and pivot point. I bet yours was set up lower than mine

It 100% was. Confirmed with IND and my mechanic that binding is related to ball setup being incorrect from rogue. Mine was setup properly.

In hinde sight I would have preferred it to be a bit lower tbh. But it's good enough for now.

I already can shift 2x as fast as before, without worrying of being locked out or grabbing the wrong gear due to vagueness of OEM shifter bracket.

It ALMOST shifts as well as my old integra type S. Not as mechanical feeling as the ITS BUT 90% of the way there.

Is it accurate that we need to drop the transmission in order to do the install? I've read a few reviews of the different shifter options, and it's keeping me from jumping in with both feet.

Thanks in advance!
