Today I test drove the 2023 IX xDrive50 what a great SUV

Hi,

I decided to but the IX xDrive50 and today I went for a test drive for the first time. First I checked the car from outside then inside, it really is a beautiful car, I do not know why some people find it ugly, anyway, do not forget that this is also my first time to switch to an EV from an ICE car, the gentleman who accompanied me came and explained the car, and of we go my god, even in the efficiency mode, I thought I was driving a Porsche or an M3 M4 M5 this is really an insane car, definitely out of this World after using it for 5 minutes, It was very clear to me that I will never going to drive an ICE car again ( except my 1968 Mustang and 1956 Ford Victoria ) It really is hard to describe that feeling, I am sure all of you know it by now but since it was the first time for me it was a thrilling experience for me. Then the gentleman asked me if I want to try it in sports mode hell yeah this time it really become a beast, I was having a hard time realizing that this Is a 5500 lbs (2500 kg ) car yet still it drives like crazy, then he opened driver assist this time, I thought I was in a transformers movie, the car really drove without me interfering, God I loved the car so much, thanks everyone for helping me out. I made a very good decision.

Do a lot of research on EVs before you sign on the dotted line. Dealerships are notoriously awful for explaining the ownership experience, the benefits of charging at home versus on-the-go, and how to get the best experience possible.

Lots of people opting for EVs are having a bad experience due to lack of knowledge. I don't want that to happen to you. These forums are great so ask all your questions here and you will get the best information from the community that you will never get from your dealer... like don't activate your free EA charging until you actually need it. The two years starts from when you activate, not from the date of purchase! Pro tip.

I truly love our iX 50.
It's a pleasure to drive & I do like it's unique looks, including grill & steering wheel and doors. It has a lot of personality uniqueness I enjoy. It took a while for the modes, controls & menus to become intuitive, and some such as self parking and aspects of DAPP continue to freak me out a bit in confined spaces.
Route planning & on-trip charging are still challenging, but they are coming along, with too much time spent on educational blog posts charging websites and youtube videos.
I am glad I've made the jump to a competent EV, after looking & wanting to for years but not till recently feeling the pieces being in place. I can't yet recommend an EV to friends who can't get home or work charging or who lack the capacity or desire to understand the new technology.
The past few days I've spent back & forth in my iX & X3 doing chores on local backroads. The X3, which has always felt a superb backroad driving car, is starting to feel quite a bit harder with control inputs and less joyous & comfortable compared to the iX.

You have made a wise choice. There is a lot of good information on this forum, and there are many good educational videos on YouTube about the car and software (iDrive 8 if it’s a 2023). Someone above mentioned activating the free EA charging, but I’m not sure exactly how that will work if it’s used vs a dealer loaner. That would be something to find out about on delivery.

Thank you very much for all the messages, well in my case at home and at work I have the facility for a three phase charger, which will work at 22kw, also in my. car I have professional charging option for 22Kw which means from 0-100 it can charge in 5 hours, I also try to understand the software like "ABRP" I will gradually solve this puzzle, I am ready for the big leap

I tried using ABRP, but it's like it's written by a bunch of nerds who are really into it. Incredibly difficult to use. The native NAV is ok and should be pretty good at planning your routes.

Plugshare is a must-have app, though. It's a community, so I encourage all to use it and contribute.

If it's a demo or a loaner, they should get the 2 years of free EA charging. I just picked up an Exec. Demo last month and my 2 years is effective until March 2026

If you can get the Build Sheet for your car, it will have the Production Code- The code plus a "-23" would be the EA code. So 1234567-23. See attached for what this sheet looks like.

It's a mixed-blessing, though, because Tesla Supercharging should become available shortly and Electrify America truly stinks. Now I am "stuck" with it again (I had 2 free years on my last car) because I'm cheap and don't want to pay if I don't have to.

^^ this

Most people who bash EVs have never bothered to drive one. Once you drive one your love affair with ICE is instantly ended. No ICE owner can appreciate the silent, smooth-as-glass EV driving experience. What's that saying… You don't know what you don't know.

Yes the fear of the experience is in contrast with the experience itself. I'll never go back to ICE as my primary... the discomfort is too much.

My dogs are much less stressed in our EV than in our ICE/hybrid.
