Tire wear measurement
I understand how tire pressure can be monitored and estimated, but how does the X1 monitor and assess tire wear?

Specific to the tire wear; in Europe, we don’t even get this in the app or car. |

What myBMW app do you have? I’m in USA with 3/2024.30 & does not show tire wear.

I’m UK based with a UK spec car and the app shows Tyre Wear. Go to Check Status/Tyre Condition/View All on the app.
Mind I think as others have said a fairly useless bit of information- far better and safer to inspect your tyres occasionally for any damage and wear. |

I actually read about this a while back. Teslas have software that use the ABS sensor to count the revolutions of the tires... as tires wear down, the revolutions change. The software uses that to determine the wear. I can't imagine that such method is proprietary because I remember reading about that on a Mercedes before.

As above this isn't useless as some state. Its a help that could indicate if an individual tyre or likely set have much more wear than the rest.
So in a FWD or RWD car only it could point towards lots of hard starts and excessive wear vs the other axle that has very little. Using the ABS sensors to detect the amount of rotation does this fairly easily. For 4wd its often slightly harder to see a big difference but ironically I checked the tyres on my X3 and the rears are wearing faster than the fronts probably due to the rear bias in the setup, the opposite is probably true of ICE X1s. |

I don’t get BMW apps?? I have the same update & software as you mentioned & yet I don’t have ability to see tire wear. WHY?? I’m in New York & you’re in Florida (both east coast)
Does BMW really rollout these changes in very specific markets before other markets? This is my first BMW so I’m puzzled by such inconsistencies. From someone who has experienced this from BMW previously, what am I missing? |

😜 CRAZY!
Now I’m even more confused by BMW’s updates. I’ve tripled checked & I have the same software 3/2024.30 & 4.3.2 MyBMW update & don’t have either the tire wear or ability to add the tire manufacturer. (Unless there’s a setting I missed in the x1) I have the 28i with ID9. Is it possible the features are only available on the M35i? |

The only thing I can think of is if you haven't run the app in ID9 to calibrate/recognize ((not exact wording) the tires. If you have, perhaps try a reboot or call Genius.

I'm on the most current version of the app and iOS and can't see tire wear, but I do have ID8 and an early production model (9/22). It does note that I am not using BMW star marked tires though, which I'm not.

I can’t see any way to update tires in X1 or in app. I don’t see amount tire wear. I’ll call BMW Genius & see if they can enlighten me.

I just had the 10k service performed and placed the anti-theft socket on the passenger seat but apparently tire rotation is not part of the service after checking from my dealer. Immediately doing a quick search to better understand, there’re a lot of BMW dealers that don’t recommend scheduled rotation for fwd xdrive vehicles. I plan to do it myself now.

I have the BRIDGESTONE TURANZA LS100A as well. The PSI has always been displayed properly with X1 as well as the MyBMW App. The tire wear has never displayed.
I don’t recall setting up “special approval” tire procedure reset before. (The dealer may have) If you think by following the procedure you noted it will capture what the ID9 needs to determine tire wear I’ll give it a try. |

I knew that tire rotation was not included in the free BMW oil change for the first three years. I asked the dealer to do it because they only charged $52(after tax). They rebalanced all fore tires and did the front-to-rear rotation.(left front to left rear, right front to right rear and vice versa) My local tire shops or even Costco charge about the same when tires are not purchased from them. Even if Costco does it for me for free, I'm sure I can easily spend a couple hundred bucks inside while waiting for them to rotate the tires. Letting the BMW dealer do it at the same time saved me time for only a few bucks more. I can do it myself, but I'm too lazy these days. My torque wrench broke last year and I didn't feel like spending $140 to buy another one. FWD cars like the xDrive X1 drive on the front wheels 99% of the time. The front tires will no doubt wear faster than the rear tires, so rotation is definitely needed in order to even out the wear. Last edited by Petroleum; 04-27-2024 at 08:30 AM.. |

Personally, I like to rotate my own wheels, as it allows me to give them a deep clean and coating before mounting them again. I just check to see if there's any wheel weights that have fallen off and get them rebalanced only if I notice one missing.
