at first I thought it was my iphone battery going bad, but then I also tried it with my Samsung phones. now I end up using the usbc charging cable most of time. do I need to have my BMW dealer look at the charging pad next time to see if it can be repaired or perhaps replaced?

I’ve seen quite a few threads and posts on here stating the same. It seems the charger is too under powered to actually charge a phone especially when it’s being used for CarPlay.

There are so many other threads about charger. It is WORTHLESS especially if you have a protective case on phone. Wireless Charging, when using any phone app or connected to X1 by WiFi & or Bluetooth uses MUCH MORE than this charging system can keep up with.
I’ve been using the USB-C ports for months & it’s working great. It’s so much faster than older type USB-A

Yeah, the USB-C port is really fast, you can just leave a cord in the tray below the console.

Nope - that's how it works. Best it can do is keep the phone charge steady. It won't go up, especially if you are using your phone for nav. I drove from Central VA to the Philly area earlier this month, using Waze, and the phone charge went from about 95% to about 80% in the wireless charger for 5 hours--so not totally "worthless", but not ideal. It might do better if you remove the phone from the case.

From what I've read, the charging experience can vary depending on the type of phone and case.

Mine works great and tops up my Pixel 8 phone up to 100 percent after 1-2 hours even using Google Android for music. I have a typical rubber case on mine as well.

interesting... my best friend just got a Pixel 8(Pro?) last month. I'll borrow it from her and see if it can fully charge in my X1's charging pad.

This has come up in other threads. I have tried to evaluate the value of the charging port and this was my experience.

I went for the same drive (approx 2.5 hours and 150 miles) using a Samsung S23 connected by Android Auto and used Waze and Spotify throughout the whole journey. Each time, the phone battery was 100% at the start. First journey did not use the wireless charger and battery life fell to 53%. Second journey I did use the wireless charger. Battery life fell to 87%. Noted that the phone is in a genuine Samsung flip case (which was closed) and while the phone did get warm, it was not exactly hot to the touch. Still, expected better but perhaps not as bad as some have experienced?

I don’t use my iPhone 15 Pro Max for nav only music via car play and very occasional phone calls in the car but if I charge it, it always goes up by the time I arrive at my destination. Sometimes on a 2-3hr journey it can jump from 50% to fully charged

Today I noticed for the first time a warning message saying my phone was getting too hot and to remove it from the charging tray. Otherwise I've had the same experience as most others: the charging can't keep up with using Android Auto.
