3/2024.40 Update USA 28i
Just heard there is a new software update being put out now in early May. Does anyone have any idea the details of the updates being made by this for gas powered vehicles with IDrive9 & the Premium Package?

I went from 3/2024.30 directly to .40. Not sure why it’s called 3/2024 when it came out in either late April or very early May.

They make it available to install in dealers first to start the 'install / testing' of the version in earnest. They only then start to add it to OTA later on, this can be 6 months later sometimes, they haven't typically done it after 1 month in the past. I suspect it's fixing bigger things that are making people unhappy, thus the speed, just a guess.

I got the 03/2024.40 update yesterday. Upgrading from 07/2023. Have not noticed any visual changes. Only bug fixes apparently. And the option to change the welcome light animation is not available. At least not on my iX1 running iDrive 8.

No notes on the update at all this time but upgraded to 03/23.40 will see if she notices any changes. They have certainly rushed this one out far quicker for some reason, if only we know.
Certainly odd it had no update notes at all. |

Please let us know if you all notice any changes or issues. Another user here mentioned that they had major issues with this release so I have held off for now. I am currently on 03/2024.30 for a while now with no issues, so if .40 is going to stir things up I am holding off.

No issues after upgrading. Some privacy settings were reset and I had to download the voice package (I had no sound from the gps).
Other than that, no problems so far. |

This morning I noticed within MyBMW app 3/2024.40 is available to replace the 3/2024.30 I received as an OTA update in March.
I downloaded it to MyBMW. Which went smoothly & quickly. I began the upload process to x1 by way of WiFi & Bluetooth connected but after 25 minutes just 35% was accomplished. Since it said I can resume upload on a later drive, I parked it. I was under the impression that it was supposed to take just about 20 minutes for entire upload. Has anyone uploaded this already & if so how long does this update typically take. |

spoke too soon... was driving to Outback to pick up dinner this evening. My X1 updated itself from 03/2024.37 to 03/2024.40 before I even got home. Couldn't tell what was new from .37 to .40?

The same here in Europe (Czech Republic). Remote update for version 03/2024.40 from version 03/2024.37 today.
Everything is the same, not visible changes. Update was taking cca 20min. |

Transferred ≠ installed. It’s telling you the downloaded firmware on your phone will be transferred to local memory in the car, which presumably will install when the vehicle is not in motion and in a drive ready state. On ID8 in my car I have to manually start the update process once the firmware has been transferred from the phone.

Thank you for the clarification.
One more thing Does “DRIVE READY” state mean the engine has to be running for about 20-30 minutes (going nowhere) with phones WiFi & Bluetooth connected to x1 in order to transfer what was downloaded to MyBMW app to X1 system? If that’s what is required, seems like a waist of gasoline ⛽️. |
