Need help with choice X3 M40i vs X4 M40i vs Tesla Model X

So I was dead set on a BMW and I called my brother who has a X7 and a Tesla Y He insisted I go and drive a tesla before I made my choice. So i did and it blew my mind on how well it drove and the accleration was insane. He did say if he ever got rid of his Tesla he would buy a X5 with M sport package

So here is what i have going on. Im have narrowed my choice down to these vehicles. The main use will be for traviling to golf tounrments every other week I play in multiple states and travel 8 to 10 days a month. 600 miles max. Also the wife will drive the car back and forth to work 3 times a week. I am a buisness owner who needs diesel trucks for pulling wieght but not the best choice for me when i am traviling. I do have 6 trucks but they are all diesels. I love my trucks there delated and they smell amazing and pulls like a frieght train. But diesel costs and MPG crush me. I will always own atleast 1 diesel. Im big fat hick with a massive beard and ride harleys. Not that matters lol.

Choices are

2022 X3 M40I with 22k miles price is 50k OTD
2024 M340 0 miles 67k OTD
2024 X4 M40I 0 miles 79K OTD
2024 Tesla Model X 0 miles 80k OTD

I have drove all the vehicles but the m340 its on the show room floor and just havent had them pull it out cause its th eleast on the radar being its a sedan and dont feel like it will be as good as the rest for traviling comfortably.

I like the X3 cause i would pay cash for it no payments and it has the B58 and solid trans im struggling with the look from the front love the side profile look just not fond of the front. Getting a refreash this year definatly fell like it will hurt the resale value.

I really like the X4 love everything about it. but have a hard time with the extra 29K for basically the same thing as the X3 Im assuming the X4 will discontinued this year might help with resale might not.

The tesla on the other hand it actually blew my mind i swore i would never on a EV but man that thing rocks. But the inside is definatlly not even close to the luxery of BMW. But it would have FSD and i do like that i travel a lot and the fact that if i fall a sleep at the wheel it will pull over and stop the car is actually a plus for me. Not that i have a problem there but i have found my self driving home after a tournment playing all day catch my self dosing off. The cons planning my trip around charging stations. Everyone has one.

The cons of the BMW everyone i have looked at does not have ventilated seats something i have im F350 KR and i use it daily. Also the maintance after the 36K or warrenty goes away. Not much maintance when it comes to the tesla or fuel cost.

Please if you can help me out on what you would do that would be great i need to make a choice at least when it comes to the X3 by tomorrow there is someone that has a offer on the car but they are waiting on me long story.

Thanks for your time

For the Tesla.. you will have range anxiety until you get used to it... especially in the winter months. You didn't state the longest round trip mileage, so, just make sure you have chargers available on the way, don't expect to pull up to one and it works or that it will be available, and don't count on the published range to be the true range.

Was in a similar situation, was looking for 2022 or new M40is with the M Sport Differential or would have waited for the 2025 specifications, coming mid-June. Couldn't find any with that M Sport Differential option.

Until I found one this morning (2023) and put in a security deposit so it doesn't get sold to some other buyer, not that people care about M Sport Differential so much.

We'll be heading to the dealership on Saturday to check it out and may be haggle a little, hopeful to some avail lol.

It's almost $14,500 lower than buying a new one (after tax) and it only has 12,000 miles on it.

Even if the new X3 M50 will be much better, I think it will start at a higher base price anyway and I think as long as we are good with the current generation, spec-wise, there's really no wrong decision out there.

Also, I prefer the current dashboard layout compared to the curved display though of course the newer iDrive 9 is going to be likely smoother and more feature-filled.

The amount of people posting in the G45 section with something that has nothing to do with a G45 really gets to me.

Unless you need something right away I’d wait to see what the new G45 M50 is like. Might be great in which case there will be even more used X3 M40i’s out there to chose from or if you love the new M50 go for that.

Well, it was a tough choice till I talked to my accountant. Then the choice was basically made for me. Of all the vehicles we were looking at only one qualified section 179 tax credit. I also was able to apply the 7,500 federal rebate instantly to the price of the vehicle. That was the Tesla Model X. To be honest when we drove them all the Tesla put the most smiles and wow factor with all that it can do. But we loved the look of the cockpit of the BMWs they just were really nice inside. The only complaint is had was no ventilated seats in any BMW we looked at. Dealer said only 1 X4 in the united states that had them. That to me is just crazy. But I use my vented seats daily in my truck. So it was a pretty big thing for me.

I will say while the BMW sales person was great The Tesla dealer was better. They let us drive almost every model by ourselves and for over a hr in each one. We litterly spent 6hrs there test driving cars. The only one they didn't have available for demo was the Model X. So I called them Thursday at 1pm and asked if they could get us one to drive so we could make a choice. They called me back at 4pm and said come pick up a X and take it over night and drive it as much as you want. So we did just that. We drove the car 250 miles to Stl and back home they didn't say a word. They just asked if we liked it. Now mind this Car was utterly a loaded model that 7 miles on it and was in there for sale inventory.the manger was able to call and get approval to move it to a demo just for us to take it. I mean wow no other dealer ship is going to to do that. So with all that it was smooth selling I out my 250 down yesterday got one on order was supposed to take delivery in June. Last night ingot alert that one was available where I live. Changed my order to it filled out credit app had descion in 10 mins with damn good interest rate confirmed the loan on the app. Filled out the insurance for tesla insurance since my carrier wanted 165.00 a month and we have 8 vehicles with them. Tesla came back with 65.00 a month with better coverage then my insurance. Took the insurance and bam I pick the car up at 11:30 am Monday morning. I have never bought a car so easily in my life. No finance person trying to up sale me on this that extended warranty this. All I can say is wow!

I will be honest I never thought in a million years I would buy Tesla but after my experience I was sold. Now let's see if it goes that smooth after ownership.

OP already bought the Model X. SCN is much more reliable for sure so going Tesla made sense.

I would have opted for the IX ( even if I don't like the front design) if I didn't need to consult an accountant and wanted the oomph and instant torque and gasoline savings. But TBH, I will wait for better battery chemistries and longevity.

Until then (probably 2028 or later), we will keep my wife's 2023 X3 M40i and I will keep our Honda ICEV and Lexus HEV.

Tesla's achilles' heel is in mass mfg, they still have (long, long) long way to go on that department of producing higher quality vehicles in mass production. Will they car wow (certain) populations, sure. To each their own. Great engineering, design, and on paper. Their mass production still lacks far behind others.

There, above has absolutely 0% nothing to do with G45.

I think anyone who test drove a BMW, Mercedes, Porsche or Audi BEV will likely find them better than the comparable Tesla in handling, dynamics, interior appointment.

Of course with Tesla pricing declining over the past quarters while European makes still increasing MSRPs, a subpopulation will find it easier to justify and rationalize buying a Tesla 3 or Y.

They may lack frequent OTA updates (but that's to fix software issues), may not accelerate as fast, may not have double wishbone front suspensions, may not have battery replacement available down the road for a reasonable cost, but I'd take those Euro BEVs anytime over a Tesla.

Hate to continue to comment on this out of place thread, but I would say that the Telsa model 3 was one of the best handling rental cars I have ever had... The fit and finish, road and wind noise, etc., was just like any other cheap rental car I would never want to own. I was extremely happy to get back to my i4 at home.

Not shocking when a lot of rentals are Nissan, Chevy, and other turds. 😀
