I have never seen the active grille on my X1 open even when it's 95 degrees outside

I have never seen the active grille on my X1 open even when it's 95 degrees outside. I was just in really congested Mother's Day last-minute shopping traffic earlier. The weather was very hot, around 92 degrees. When I got to the shop that I was going to, I parked right in front of their window which had mirror tint. I could see the grille clearly and they were not open. I left the car running and got out to look. Nope, definitely not open. However, I could feel the intense heat of the engine coming through the hood .

Is this normal? Just how hot does it have to be before active grille opens to let air in?

Mine opened today after 30 minutes of fast highway driving, 12 Celsius raining

I'm probably just worrying for nothing, but then again, how can mine never open even in 33 degree Celsius weather after 45 minutes of stop and go traffic? I've been regularly looking at the temp gauge just in case my active grille does not appear to be functioning.

Doesn’t seem right. Mine opens regularly. I notice it almost every day when the temp is above 75 or 80 degrees when I return home and drive up our steep driveway and park in the garage.

As I understand that these remain closed initially to get the engine up to Tempus quickly as possible, but then I believe they stay open for the most part other than maybe for some aerodynamics at higher speed driving.

Every time I turn off my car and get out they’re open and the fans are going.

My wife’s X3 has them as well and she had an issue with one and it started giving her a check engine light, if there was an issue with it more than likely, you’d see some sort of notice about it.

It took me about 2 months to finally see them open. I used to check after every drive and only recently I saw and heard the fans still going after I parked and turned off the engine.

that got me thinking about another "issue" which I also never saw.

even after driving in stop and go traffic for an hour in really hot weather(95 to 100), I have NEVER seen my engine continue to run after I turned the engine and locked the car. I've only had my X1 for about a year.

Mine does this every single day… but that said I’m not super very gentle on it on the drive home.

Depending on the conditions and how you drive, even after you’ve turned off the motor the radiator fan may stay on and the electric water pump will continue to circulate coolant. With my previous e90 335i, it was almost a guarantee this would happen due to the tropical climate and the way I drove. With the X1 it only happens to me on longer drives for the most part.

And being in South Florida is a possible factor.

I haven't noticed our current or previous X1 fan to run after stopping but my MINI does sometimes. Over the last few months the MINI fan has not turned on after stopping but it did today (ambient temperatures are getting warmer for summer).

Yes, especially over the last week. Getting super hot in FL.
