New Owner - First quality related issue?
Collected my X1 Xdrive 23i M Sport and very very happy with it but I think this may be my first "quality" related issue (although quite minor).
I need to take a picture but I wondered if anyone's dashboard stitching (above the glove box) is not straight/doesn't follow the line of the dashboard contour, before it scoops upwards towards the windscreen. It just looks like the stitched material may have not been stretched evenly over the dashboard. As I say it is quite minor but my eye is being drawn to it. I've attached a picture of the car though and she looks great |

Although minor, it is a defect. If it bothers you, you should mention it to your dealer. They should either offer you some form of compensation or get that panel replaced

Yes I have sent my dealer an email, it's a minor thing that spoils what is an otherwise amazing car.
Does anyone know if the dash panels can be replaced fairly easily? |

Just a heads up about compensation: The panel alone costs 2089 euro (direct from BMW dealer would likely cost more) If I were you, I wouldn’t accept any monetary compensation if it’s not near that amount. And if they won’t give you that amount, then ask them to replace the whole panel. |

Thanks for the reply... Wow 2k!! Do you work for BMW or a BMW dealership?
My car was sold to me as brand new, unregistered with delivery mileage only. But it was a cancelled order. There could be many reasons for this but I suppose this defect could have been a factor. Other than this the car is amazing. Would removing this panel potentially be destructive, I'd be concerned that more damage could be done by removing it, if the mechanic was unfamiliar with the process. |

If you want to get the panel replaced, you should only do this at BMW as they should do this for you for free since it’s a defect from their end. I would not buy the panel and get it installed by a third party mechanic. BMW should offer you a free replacement of the panel and free installation. |

Personally, I wouldn't want my dash dismantling for that.
But I tend to not usually worry about minor defects in my cars and ymmv. I imagine the whole panel coming off may be quite a big job for the dealership compared to when it's being built at the factory. I would be more concerned about what may get 'disrupted' during the fix. But, it's not my car and you should do what's right for you. 👍 |

There’s no way I’d start trying to initiate a warranty claim for some stitching that is a couple of MM out. However as you say, it’s the OPs car and their decision. |

Exactly. There are worse possible issues that your vehicle, or any vehicle for that matter, could have...this isn't one of them. Leave it be, enjoy the vehicle

An update on the dash, I've just about decided that it's not worth having the upper dash replaced as it may fix one problem and create others. Also my dealer doesn't seem to really be able to provide any actual guidance on how easier or not it would be to do. Despite this they want the car in so that they can assess the car (presumably send photo's and discuss the problem with BMW). At that point they will let me know what their opinion is (if it can be done, the risks etc.) From my perspective whatever they do I want the car to be perfect as it should have been, if they can't reassure of that then I'll accept it as it is and expect BMW to compensate me. I think the dealer wants to avoid me going down the complaint/compensation route as it may affect their customer service/sales bonuses (even though the problem is not of their making, it's BMW poor quality control).
