Driving Assistant Plus iDrive9

I have a 2024 X1 with iDrive9 and I can not enable Driving Assistant Plus. I have been working with BMW Genius and BMW Assist for 2 weeks and getting no where. This is my first BMW and the support model is unbelievable poor, I am at a loss overall how bad the experience has been.

I bought the vehicle with Driving Assistant Plus on trail mode and it is still active. But I have no option to enable it in iDrive9. The owners manual says:

To turn Assisted Driving Mode Plus on/off, go through the menu as follows: Apps menu / "Vehicle" / "Driving settings" / "Driver Assistance" / "Driving" / "Assisted Driving Plus" / "Assisted Driving Plus".

Driving Assistance is not available to me. I have updated all my apps in ConnectDrive and I have restarted the Infotainment system.

Anyone seen and resolved this issue?

There are many threads about the same or very similar issue you may want to search through. Don’t know for sure if what you are going through is exactly what I went through with My 2024 x1 28i but it appears on many vehicles with ID9 the myBMW app & the ID9 don’t properly communicate behind the senses.

Long story short, once the service department worked with BMW corporate to resolve my Drivers Assistance Plus connection problem, I pushed & received $800 back from BMW. They also extended the 3 month FREE trial from 3 months from when the x1 really had the drivers assistance plus connected to the ID9.

BTW I had same connection issues with digital premium trial connection & BMW also extended trial to 3 months after they fixed the connection.
GOOD LUCK. 🍀

You said "the service department worked with BMW corporate" ... I have not gone to my local BMW dealership. At this point, I have been working via email and phone with BMW Assist but it is slow, painful, and mainly incorrect and outdated information since I am using iDrive 9.

Are you suggesting I go to my local dealership? Maybe I will get more priority, at this point, no one seems to care.

i did not set anything in menu for assistant plus ... after i bought this car, and it is working for me perfectly. You will start assistant on steering wheel with buttons there, i did not anything more.

PS. I have assistant plus from factory package, not bought from connected drive

The driver's manual has directions to enable Assisted Driving Plus, so it is confusing. I have enabled Assisted Driving and it works, but I need to keep my hands on the wheel. I also tried Assisted Driving on I-95 in Florida where it should work. But Plus is not being enabled.

That is why I am looking for specifics and if anyone else faced the same issue.

If you are sure you can’t turn the drivers assistance plus from steering wheel on when you are at highway speeds then I would call Your local service department & set up visit for them to triple check. That probably means you go along for a test drive with service technician in the vehicle.
For me working with the Corporate Genius team or at the dealership did not help because ID9 said it was active BUT IT TRULY WAS NOT & I was only able to use the standard cruise control. The MODE button did not change anything.

This issue is a common communication problem with ID9. The 1st 3-1/2 months of ownership were HORRIBLE (until dealership got involved) but the last 2 months have been much better.

PS double check that you truly have the free digital premium trial working in x1 as well. Go into center display & see if SPOTIFY can be downloaded into x1. It may even show an “subscribed until” date but that does not necessarily mean it’s really connected to ID9 in the vehicle.

My Digital Premium trail expired. I bought the X1 vehicle used and I had 2 weeks left on each trail. I requested an extension for the Driving Assistant Plus which was granted since I was never able to try it out.

Thanks for the guidance, I'll call my local dealership for help.

This may or may not be relevant but it took me ages to figure out how to get plus enabled while driving. Many times I'd be in traffic and the HUD showed "driving assist plus available" but I had no idea how to enable it!

Turns out...you just take both hands off the wheel. That's it. There's nothing to press. If it says it's available, take both hands off and the 2 green bars will light on the steering wheel spokes

It only works below 60 km/h and you have to have already been using assisted drive.

This is in my iD9 28i in Canada. I got the factory driving assist package at purchase time.

Not sure if this is helpful but it was totally non-obvious to me even after reading the manual several times!

Yes, I have read that you take your hand off the wheel. But I NEVER see the "driving assist plus available" when in Driving Assistant mode. I do see the green steering wheel and I can use normal Driving Assistant where I keep slight pressure on the steering wheel and the car drives by itself.

I was told my BMW Assist over email to do this:

1. Update Apps in Connected Drive Store
2. Once the update completes, we recommend shutting the vehicle off and allowing a few minutes before restarting the vehicle to check the connection.
3. Once the update completes, please confirm function availability for Driving Assistant Plus. Please check which SLA (Speed Limit Assist) feature is available: "Vehicle Apps" > “Drive settings” > "Driving Assistant" > tap “Drive”.

This is where I am lost, I have no option for "Driving Assistant". Attached images with what I see in iDrive9 under Driving:

what i understand, driving assistant plus is combination those 3 functions ... car can keep the line, can automatically speed up and break, can break on speed limit signs. If you have assistant PRO you can see situation on road on display + automatically changing lanes.

https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...g&opi=89978449

Driving Assistant Plus includes camera and radar-based driver
assistance systems: Active Cruise Control, Speed Limit Information,
Speed Limit Assistant, Lone Keep Assistant and Steering Assistant,

There is a separate option under Driving for "Driving Assistance Plus".

See around the 10 min mark on this video where it is shown:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kofnxy21f4c&t=924s

I also took a screen shot of the video.

I do not have this option on my X1 but I am enrolled in the trial for Driving Assistance Plus in ConnectedDrive

there is only this button inside, but i think in many countries is prohibited to do this ... maybe BMW hide this option. But in practice, i can put my hands off steering wheel if is green for few moments, when is orange i have to put hand back ...

For what it’s worth mine only works under 40 MPH on highways. Does not work on surface streets. Not sure if that’s GPS controlled or not, but full hands free only working under those conditions.

Yes its seems correct, in older X5 was Driving assistant plus with name Traffic Jam Assistant or something like that, and worked only on low speeds in traffic jam ... i think it is the same, Assistant Plus with hands free is only for those situations.

check this video, here is everything about it

Yes, I agree that BMW is hiding this option.

Plus I am stuck in an infinite loop with support:

When I call BMW Genius, I am transferred to BMW Assist. BMW Assist tells me to email "customercare@bmwassist.com". Customer care emails are telling me to enable the "Driving Assistant Option" which doesn't exist. And customer care tells me to call BMW Genius if I have a question.

I don't know what country you are in, but in Europe this option is disabled.

To clarify my previous post. As per BMW’s wording, the full hands off traffic, jam, assistant, which steers and stops and goes for you only under 40 miles an hour. Assisted driving work for me up to any speed as far as I can tell Requires you to keep at least one hand on the wheel.

I think this menu is hidden, but it is working in practice. On that polish video, you can see, he can drive hands off more then 20 seconds, in traffic jam its working hands off all time, then i am sure it is assistant plus working automatically, but not in separate menu, will test it today in traffic jam and will see.

@jsmythe32, i am fighting with BMW support 3 months, because my navi not talking, and personal assistant not working too, at any language, 3 months i have this car and those functions are not working in my country.

with your problem, i am sure assistant plus is working for you for 100 percent, only BMW hide those menu in newest version ID9, but is working like should be.

Thanks for the clarification. Have you only seen "assist plus" engage on the highway at under 40 mph? And other surface roads?
