Question Google Messages App on Android - Disappearing Texts

So the same day I got my 2024 X1 M35i (end of April), I started noticed that random text messages in my Google Messages app (on my Pixel 8 Pro) would just disappear - not the entire thread, just individual texts. I don't necessarily know if it is related to the X1 or not, but I've been working with Google engineers directly for a while now and they helped me put 2 and 2 together as far as the timing coincidence (and are still working with me to try and get to the bottom of this issue - which is still occurring as of today).

Just wondering if anyone else that uses an Android (especially a Pixel) and also uses the Google Messages app might have noticed anything similar?

FYI - I don't really use Android Auto and it isn't enabled to automatically start on the BMW (although my Pixel does prompt me to start it if I look at the phone after I've gotten into the car).

Thanks!

I have a Pixel 6 and I had the opposite happen- I had a text from February come up in my car last week. I don't use the stock messages app (I use Textra) and I do not use Android Auto

Yep. I have an S24+ and every now and then texts will disappear from my phone after I drive somewhere. I use the Samsung messaging app, which is basically google messages. Seems to be random. Can't pinpoint what triggers it or why.

Is your BMW on iDrive 9?

Yes, an X1 M35 on iDrive 9.

That's what I have as well. I just got mine a few weeks ago, so hadn't yet enabled the ability to view texts through the iDrive 9 interface (the setting was turned off on iDrive 9), but did grant the BMW Bluetooth connection on my phone the "Text Messages" permission. I wonder if that is related. I've turned that permission off, so I guess I'll see if that helps over the coming days.

If you don't mind me asking, do you have the iDrive 9 setting enabled or disabled for text messages, and do you have the Bluetooth permission enabled or disabled on your phone for "Text Messages"?

The fact that at least two of us are experiencing this is certainly worrisome. It seems like there might be some very serious bug in BMW's Bluetooth implementation or the iDrive 9 system that is allowing it to just randomly and sporadically delete individual messages.

I'm pretty sure I have all the related settings turned on. Never had any issues with my M2 or with the aftermarket MMI box I have in it. Seems to be restricted to the X1. I'm assuming it's to do with their android auto implementation, as I also notice I don't always to see messages in the AA messaging apps even when I know I've gotten one.

I'm really not impressed with iDrive 9, and pure exclusive use of touchscreens sucks.

Yup, I am definitely not impressed with iDrive 9 so far either. It looks flashy, but I think there are still a lot of bugs to be worked out - almost seems like BMW is using us as beta testers

I turned off the ability (on my phone) for the BMW Bluetooth connection to access text messages, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that doing so resolves the issue - although it's hard to track since I don't normally check all my different text threads to see if recent texts are missing or not. I'm also still working with Google engineers directly to try and get to the bottom of it. If it turns out it is BMW's Bluetooth implementation, maybe they can reach out to BMW and get it fixed...

Hopefully you get to the bottom of it. Warm (enough) weather is finally here in Anchorage, so I'm driving the M2 and probably won't be driving my X1 again for several months. Open to testing things if needed though.

Spoke too soon. Actually took the X1 back out today for a trip. Several texts were deleted today, including a couple pictures people had sent. Not cool at all.

Have you tried turning off text message permissions on your phone for the BMW Bluetooth connection? I think that might have solved the issue for me (although it's hard to know for certain since I don't routinely check all of my recently send and received text messages to see if any are missing)...
