Is it me, or is the X1 the best looking SUV from the newly released (non-facelifted) models (i.e X1 U11, X2 U12, X3 G45)
IMO the interior looks dreadful and the central console looks incomplete. |

The separation in the grille kills it for me. All the sensors are now on the left side instead of the middle. Poor placement choice. If they insist on the separation, at least place the sensors in the bottom section (similar to X5, X6)

the X1 is still the only SUV made in Germany.
I will never buy a German vehicle(Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, VW, etc) produced in the US, Mexico, South Africa or anywhere where else. If it's place of final assembly is not on German(above-mentioned brands) or Austrian(due to Mercedes) territory, I'm not buying. Period. End of story. I was missing the iDrive knob a lot at the beginning, but not so much anymore. What I’d prefer over the knob is the larger curved screen. But then again, with the larger screen, the knob is an absolute must! All in all, other than a brand new X1 running on two different software versions on completely different platforms (without the justification of an LCI update), I don’t have any real complaints. They did an awesome job! |

Is it a demand-related issue? (I’m assuming that maybe the X1 is considered too small of a car for the US?) |

Exactly! Especially the X2: front looks great! (a mini X6), sides look good (toned-down X1), and the rear…well….absolutely awful

I do like the fact that the X3 retains the iDrive controller, something I wish remained in the X1. I really don't like the "interaction bar" on the inside, really cheapens the look IMO, I also don't think Dune Grey is the best launch colour either. |

It steps away from the typical frozen colour of the M-lite cars recently Yeah, I think any BMW with the larger curved screen will get the iDrive controller. Unfortunately for us, the smaller cars with the smaller curved display don’t get the iDrive controller. Excluding the 2 series, which somehow gets the larger display and controller |

sounds like you're questioning BMW's logic?

It just doesn’t look right in my eyes, the lines don’t look balanced and the back of the car I don’t like at all, quite Kia in design. The X1 U11 looks much nicer to me

it somehow reminds me of my friend's new Mazda CX-5 SUV... then again, these days, too many cars/SUVs look similar to each other.

Doesn't look terrible, not as cohesive a design as the X1, BMW did well with that, we just need a few extra buttons and the iDrive back and the X1 would be perfecto.
As for the interior of the X3, it will take a bit of getting used to, it seems to be one of those just because you can't doesn't mean you should things.... |

One positive: they moved the exterior light menu button to the left stalk!

I assume it also means the new X3 will be absolutely impossible to code like most BMWs from the last couple of years. (no coding of the lights and other stuff, especially for those of us in the US who don't get some light features like the European BMWs) Full disclosure, my BMW dealer already has my $1000 deposit on their new X3 list. They've had my $1000 for the last 8 months. I am #2 and the list currently has 92 customers who all put down $1000 deposits for the new X3. Last edited by Haebler; 06-19-2024 at 12:46 PM.. |
