Who ignores the front license plate law?
I'm curious to know how many of you currently do not have a front license plate, or plan not to ever for your new 1 series. Also, please comment if you have been harassed by 5-O because of this.

I've been ignoring it for over 25 years in TX, and never a ticket. Most cars look like crap with it. And as a plus, it takes a lot less distance to get locked by radar:headbang:.
If a car has a drilled front license plate bracket, it's a deal breaker for me. That's why I always have to special order my cars, since most dealers install the front bracket as soon as they get their cars. Or buy them in neighboring NM, which doesn't have front plate requirements. Later. JC |

A while ago I got a parking ticket, and along with my parking ticket was a ticket for no front liscense plate. That pissed me off cause I didn't know they could give you a ticket for that too. So you gotta watch out for the real cops, and the "parking patrol". I'll try to get away with it for as long as I can with the 135i, it really butchers the front of the car. My salesguy offered to keep it off without me even asking. I said "hell yea", he said its something a lot of people do...

Haven't had one on my cars for years, and have never had an issue. ::knock on wood::
I carry the extra one under the passenger-side floor mat, so I can pull it out if I ever get asked. |

I've know several people in CA that have gotten a ticket because of not having the front plate.
Its a fix-it ticket so it can be a real hassle to do the backflips to get the ticket resolved. I suppose you can always keep it in the windshield . . . |

i got pulled over twice in one week for not having one, just warnings each time. i put it on after the second and its been about 6 months.. in a couple more i'll get fed up and work up the muster to take it off again but if i get pulled over one more time thats it. not worth it.

Oh gosh, not the windshield again. Keeping it on the windshield does not mean you don't get ticketed; you still get ticketed since the CA vehicle code specifically states that it must be mounted to your car. Also, it's just plain not safe to have it there. Last thing you'd want when getting into a car accident is for a metal object flying around like a frisbee inside the cabin of your vehicle.

i think i might just go this route -- as it requires no drilling of holes, using the tow hook opening http://gominigo.com/NHLPB-main.html according to the gauge measurements, the 48-56mm works http://gominigo.com/NHLPB-BMW.html |

Here in Nevada we have a law which requires the front plate, but there is a hige loophole. Basically it says that if the manufacturer of the car does not install the front license plate bracket at the factory, then you are not required to have a front plate on the car. Since very few manufacturers install a bracket at the factory there are very few cars that are required to have the plate, and as such cops don't seem to pay attention to it.

The stealer didn't install it on my current car, and also didn't on my prior car. Got pulled over during a routine check for registration etc. about 3 weeks ago on an on-ramp for not having a front plate. However, I do have the plate in the trunk, and no holes have ever been drilled into the front bumper, So after the cop checked my front bumper to verify my story, I was told to have the stealer order a bracket and install the plate. No ticket yet, but I'll probably end up mounting the thing on my current, (soon to be winter), ride eventually just to not give them another reason to pull me over. I'm still on the fence as far as having the plate installed on the 1 when she gets here.
