Steering wheel feel after upgrading to 07/2024.40

Hello everyone,

I’m not sure if this is related to the recent software update (07/2024.40), but I’ve noticed a strange steering wheel behavior on my BMW X1 30e. Specifically, when the car is stationary or moving slowly and the steering wheel is centered, I can feel a brief, unnatural resistance when I try to turn it slightly. It’s almost like a quick jiggling sensation for a split second. Has anyone else experienced something similar or know if this could be linked to the software update? The issue does not occur when the car is moving.

Are you talking about almost a “notchy” feeling at low speeds, as if turning it just slightly left or right it feels like it sort of feels like a “click” before you continue turning the wheel? For me I wouldn’t call it a jiggling sensation, since for me it doesn’t really feel like it’s loose. But maybe I have something different happening from you.

English isn’t my first language, so “jiggling” might not have been the best word.

Yes, your description is pretty much what I’m experiencing. A slight “click” that feels unnatural, almost as if the car is trying to correct the steering. It mostly happens at very low speeds, like a subtle correction, similar to when lane assist activates. I'm almost certain that this started after the latest upgrade. Are you experiencing something similar?

oh... I thought it was just my imagination. I definitely feel that weird sensation after the update. Almost wanted to ask the service dept to check to see if there was something wrong with the steering wheel or the steering column.

I actually just updated to the 40 version today, I was using the previous 25 version and was experiencing the same thing. To be honest I didn’t think much of it because it’s very subtle, but if you do go to the service center let me know what they say 😁

I think we all do, the sensation that BMW engineers and developers are clueless and haven’t learnt the concepts of testing and troubleshooting with these firmware update.

Owners = beta testers.

I don't mind being a beta tester, as long I'm financially compensated.

I'm not proud of saying this, but back in 1996, I was young, stupid, and needed quick money, so I participated in a drug trial for sildenafil(aka the little blue pill we now know as Viagra). I was excused from the trial after 3 months due to adverse effects with my blood pressure. I only got paid half, which was about $800(1996 Dollars). My girlfriend at the time eventually figured out what was going on and she was not happy about it at all. (we were not allowed to discuss what we were taking with our girlfriends or wives)

Didn’t she appreciate someone having a permanent boner available then?
