Is my X1 a lucky draw, or did BMW secretly update the DCT?

FYI, My production date was April 2024.

Oh, believe me, I know exactly what everyone is talking about—I test-drove a 2023 production model at the dealership before placing my order, and there was definitely DCT hesitation, about a 1-2 second delay when accelerating where nothing would happen. However, since mine was delivered, the DCT has been the BEST transmission I’ve experienced in any of my previous cars. There’s been no hesitation or delay, even with the engine Auto Start/Stop engaged, regardless of the mode—whether in Sport or Efficient.

Additionally, it’s the best fuel economy I have ever seen in a non-hybrid model. I can get 50 MPG on U.S. highways during the summer.

The only two issues I’ve had with my X1 are a rear suspension clunking noise when going up or down an incline/driveway and a rattling noise from the driver’s side, top left corner of the driver’s side window/weather seal when driving over rough surfaces.

Did BMW actually make a hidden update to the DCT, or am I just super lucky?

What engine do you have?

My 25e has a slight hesitation when the battery is flat and is just using the ICE.

The US only have the 1 engine, the 28i without MHEV.

I didn’t know that, why’s that then?

No demand for the other engines?

BMW US has decide the 28i and M35i are the only options they are deemed to want / need. Many states the eco, mild hybrid only ever gets switched off anyway.

Others have a big push for EV/PHEV but as a market they have decided not to ship anything else X1 wise.

Surprising that because surely if the boats going to the USA loaded with X1s then whether it’s got 28i’s on or any other model it makes no difference?

That is of course all variations of the X1 are made in one place.

Saying all this, BMW know what they doing don’t they haha.

Curious. One would reasonably expect that they would address this (I've experienced it on both a 23 and 24 1XM, and it was extremely noticeable in both, though I didn't look into production dates) -- here is hoping that the new cars arrive with a fix and that the cars in market can be updated.

Im not sure but mine was also built on april 17 2024. I picked it up, drove 400 meters then got an error. Took it right back and was informed the whole trans needs replacing. That took around 3 months. I have the 20i MH and feel like the car struggles to get up and going. A little better in sport trans but still. iPhone doesn’t seem to be charging and popped up a message that wireless charging is active but keeps doing it randomly.

I have never driven another X1 apart from mine (M35 Aug 2024 build). I’ve seen many comments about DCT hesitation and that the gearbox isn’t very good, but I have seen the complete opposite in my car.

My car is responsive, doesn’t suffer any hesitation and I would say the gearbox is noticeably better than my previous F40 m135.

Not sure if that’s because they have tweaked something, or if people have made it out to be worse than it is. Either way, I’m really happy with it.

I noticed it before I read anything about the issue, then looking for it, found a genuinely disconcerting lag from a stop, in two 1XMs.

It is probably my biggest concern as my car enters production but if someone can confirm that Spring built cars and forward have been fixed that would be big news.

Offhand, what is the easiest way to check build date on a dealer car?

My 24 X2 M35i has the same clunking noise from the rear right. Took it to the dealer today and they had me test drive with them after they could not replicate the noise. Even after I test drove it over many inclined surfaces, we couldn’t replicate the noise. Very tricky noise to replicate.

The problem is with the rear torsion strut brace. The BMW master technician was able to replicate the noise, then placed multiple microphones on my car to pinpoint the source of the noise, and it was replaced in August (less than 1hr in total). The noise was completely gone but has returned again this month. I am currently waiting for a possible official BMW recall notice.

They mentioned that this is BMW’s first front-wheel-drive model, and they are still learning about this completely new setup. There are also many aspects they need to share with MINI technicians.

Thanks for the Response. Just wondering, did the noise get more common as u drove with it or no? The noise rarely seems to happen on my car so kind of wondering how it’ll go over time.

It will worsen over time, lol (sorry) especially when the temperature is high. Colder temperatures are not as bad.

You can read the VIN with bimmer.work and it will tell you the production week of the vehicle. UK cars also have it on the door sticker (month and year but not week), not sure if the US vehicles are the same.

why would they say such a thing when BMW has the previous x1 model which is front wheel drive, all the mini's are front wheel drive (x1 chassis), all the 2 series are front wheel drive, series 1 are front wheel drive.

To be fair, in the US we don't get the 1 series, and only the 4-door 2 series Gran Coupe is FWD. The 2 door 230i and 240i are RWD based.

I took a drive today in the X1 and I've noticed that the delay seems much improved. The transmission is still a bit jerky from a stop, but the Auto Start/Stop didn't seem to kick in quite as early as before, and was generally a bit smoother when restarting the engine. It could be all in my head, but I don't think I've even thought of disabling the ASS in the past few weeks. I'll have to do more testing when I get another chance.

Mine is a 9/22 production date, one of the early models. There was a recent OTA software update, so that may have been what “fixed” it.

I have a 2024 x1 28i with an late October 2023 production date. November 9th Final Assembly

While I typically turn off the ASS each drive, the other day I did not on purpose & I noticed it was acting much better than I recall several software updates ago. Then, I ran a test which proved to me there must have been some kind of recent update because when I stopped slowing at a traffic light & lightly lifted my foot (almost off the peddle) while keeping slight pressure on it. The vehicle DID NOT SHUT DOWN. When light turned green & I completely lifted my foot & engage the accelerator, engine continued to run.
What a huge difference than I recall having months ago.

Did you guys also notice this? I think since the update, the Traffic Light and Sign Warning function has been seriously linked to the Auto Start/Stop function. When the light turns green, the engine starts automatically. Or was it just a coincidence?
