X2 U10 Tuning
Hi,
I currently drive an M235i F22 (N55/ZF8) and am a big fan of tuning. I’ve installed a custom engine map alongside a Stage 4 XHP transmission tune, and the car feels completely transformed compared to its stock setup—so much more enjoyable to drive. On the other hand, my dad drives an F25 X3 (N20/ZF8) with a Stage 1 tune that he’s really happy with. However, the car is starting to show its age, and it lacks some modern conveniences like CarPlay and a rear-view camera. As a gift, I’m considering upgrading him to a U10 X2 (B48/7DCT). The challenge is that his current X3 makes around 280 hp, while the new X2 only puts out 210 hp. To close this gap, I’m looking into tuning the X2—possibly with a Stage 2 setup. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find a tuner I trust who offers reliable tunes for this specific model. So, I have a couple of questions: 1. Is there anything unique about the B48 engine or the 7DCT transmission in the X2 that makes them harder to tune? For example, transmission power limits or ECU restrictions? 2. Are there any off-the-shelf (OTS) tunes available for this car that I can install myself? Thank you in advance for your help! Best regards, Bernardo Manzur Bernardo@manzur.com.br |

The current U10/U11 platform seems to be pretty locked down, where traditional flash tunes aren't currently possible. There's also a relative lack of demand for tuning this platform apparently, as the X1 has been out for a few years already with very little aftermarket support. The only current offering I've seen for ECU tuning is with a piggyback tuner.

Bernardo, why can't you equip your Dad with the 312hp X2 m35i? And then you'll not feel any need for mods or tuning (that doesn't exist outside the JB4 piggyback). |

We live in Brazil and here the price difference from the XDrive 20i to the M35i is almost another X2, tuning it would be cheaper.

I think I will have to go with the 20i since the 28i is not available here . Once the car arrives, I’ll decide whether the JB4 or sending the ECU to FEMTO would be the best tuning option, assuming a simpler reprogramming solution like bm3 isn’t available by then. I’ll update this forum once I have more information. |

One thing to keep in mind is that it uses a Getrag 7DCT400 transmission, which is rated for a max of 295 ft/lb (400nm) of torque. This can limit tuning potential.
