Ideas for next car
So I'm looking to replace the Cayenne soon. I've had it for 3 years and I enjoyed it but I think my wants are changing. At the time I did not have a fun car and wanted an SUV but also wanted something somewhat "sporty". I will say the Cayenne did that well.
However I have the Miata now which scratches the sporty itchy and really just want something super comfortable. Most of our driving is just local city and a lot of hwy plus FL to NC and back several times per year. I'm open to ICE or EV. I was leaning towards EV at first because a lot of them have crazy deals right now compared to similar ICE and maintenance is practically none existent which is nice when I have to deal with 4 cars. However I may be leaning back towards ICE. Here are some of the cars I've considered. - Cadillac Lyriq (good lease deals) - Genesis GV70 or G80 maybe G90 (would probably be lease not sure I want to keep a Genesis that long) - Range Rover Sport (horrible lease deals, definitely do not want to own) - Tesla X (doesn't lease well, don't really want to own, stupid doors) - New Tesla Y (hasn't come out, probably very similar to our Model 3) One curve ball that I just started considering was Lexus ES or LS. Never been a Lexus person, never owned one, never considered one, but the more I look into them the more I kinda like them. Especially the LS. Probably safest bet buying used none CPO, probably holds value well, hard to find newer lower mileage used LS around here though. |

The iX is no uglier than a Tesla, lol.
GV70 is super nice, and have a huge warranty. Lexuses are awesome for comfort and reliability. If you just want a long distance mile eater, I wouldn't do an EV. Last thing you want to do is be stuck in rural SC looking for a stupid charger. It boils down to what size you need as well as how long you plan to own it and how much you want to spend and new vs used. |

Honestly all your choices are huge downgrade from Cayenne.
Get X5 or GLE for SUV. Mach E or used Taycan for EV. |

If you’re considering an EV, go for the new Tesla Model Y. Judging by the updated Model 3 Highland, the new Model Y should see significant improvements:
Pros: - Most efficient EV SUV - Supercharger network - Reasonable weight and ample space - Reliable and refined powertrain and battery technology - Amazing Autopilot (even the base version outperforms anything else on the market) - Great app that actually works and is highly usable - Constant updates to improve performance and add new features Cons: - Tesla hate/Elon Musk being too political lately - Minimalist interior - Not the best-looking design - Build quality can be hit or miss, but should improve with the refreshed Model 3 as an indicator |

It's just us 2 and 2 dogs so we don't really need a ton of space although I do like the utility of an SUV. I've started leaning towards sedan just because I like to try new things and I've never owned a large land yacht like an LS or G90. I don't tend to keep cars that long, 3 years on the Cayenne is a stretch for me. So looking at lease or something I can buy used that's cheap enough and reliable enough to not lose my ass in a couple years when I sell it. As for EV I only have experience with Tesla and we actually just took it up to NC for Xmas and came down in the F350. I drove up with my father in law who is a big time EV hater. On the way back he was commenting how much he prefered being in the Tesla. Charging is a none issue in the Tesla. There's a million chargers between here and NC and we charge strictly at home once we are at either location. Takes us around 12 hours regardless if we take ICE or EV since we stop several times either way to eat, let the dogs out and just stretch. That being said I don't know how it would be with a none Tesla, especially one without access to Tesla network. Quote:
Now on good roads, giving it the beans it's great! Better than many cars I've had. I just don't use it for that anymore. Quote:

Pass on the Lyriq. Considered it as a gift for someone until I drove one and the entire display screen went dark for a couple minutes then threw out a bunch of malfunctions during the test drive. 5 minutes looking at FB groups and forums confirmed that owners are having an absolute nightmare of an experience with the car. Read about the inability to reverse when it's raining without triggering the emergency braking systems. Quite comical.
For a luxury EV SUV, right now the best on the market is the Q8/SQ8 e-tron. It's not sporty, but it's supremely comfortable, quiet, and packs everything a flagship Audi has without the EV-ness being too in your face. It's being phased out because of how much money they're losing on it since it shares the Bentayga/Urus/Cayenne platform at a fraction of the price. They can be had for $800/mo sign and drive. The only downside is that it's effectively a 5 year old car already. |

What about a Taycan wagon? Not sure how those leasez but I'd imagine not too bad.
It took me 12 hours to go from outside of Charlotte to West Palm Florida once and I wanted to blow my brains out. It was terrible, we normally did that trip in like 9 with 2 and the dog. I think I hit 8 once. My sister (who had no fear of speeding tickets because daddy would have dealt with it) made it in a bit over 6 one time. I was t sure if I was more impressed or terrified. |

What’s your budget? Seems pretty relevant. You can find 12 month 15k mile leases on Taycan 4S/GTS/turbo/turbo S in the $800-1200/month all in range, check leasehackr. The key is a high MSRP car being sold for barely over residual value. Hard to find but can be done and there’s brokers that have some already worked out.
Other than that, Range Rover SVR, Panamera Turbo S, RS7. You’ll want a warranty for any of those though. |

If not another Cayenne, with air suspension this time, then a Lexus of whatever body style and price tag suits you.

Low mile 15 year old Lexus LS400 and keep 70K in your pocket.
No warning beeps, no yelling at you or other intrusive tech. Just a rock solid build, lots of room and a V8. |

I test drove a Range Rover Sport and I honestly really liked it, but damn they are $$$ and leases are shit. Don't really have any desire to own one out of warranty. Quote:
Definitely going to check out the ES and LS in person and see what I think. Definitely! I forgot to include that one on my list but I have looked into it even test drove it a while back. At the time I felt like I prefered my Model 3. I think you have to get into the higher trims to get some of the basic stuff like cooled seats etc which ups the lease cost considerably, still a deal compared to many ICE options though and their 18 month lease is not bad. Haven't considered BMW at all to be honest. I've always associated them with harsher ride more sporty which is not what I want this time around, but may have to revisit. |

That being said the thought of a NA V8 land yacht with sofa seating does sound rather appealing! |

A buddy of mine does this same thing, only with the LX Series. He loves the Lexus V8.

A buddy of mine got his dad's old LS430. It's honestly incredible for a 20 year old car. Inside it's still in amazing condition for 150k miles, rides nice and smooth, enough power for anyone to cruise, and even has most modern driver aids like radar cruise and stuff. They're insanely good bargains and run literally forever with insanely high build quality.
If you just want something to reliably and comfortably eat miles and don't care about having something new and flashy, it's basically not possible to beat an old LS430/460. The only other cars I can see arguments for are like, the last generation Caddy DTS, or a Lincoln Town Car, and only because they're cheaper and more plentiful. |

I had a Cadillac XTS Platinum trim a few years back. I LOVED that car. It had full leather, amazing sound system and it drove like a cloud, but was not boaty at all. I don't know how they did it. That being said thank god it was CPO because it was at the dealer ALL the time. Not sure Cadillac makes anything like it anymore. Shame. My sister had a CX-5 dont remember exact version. I drove it once and just felt meh. Don't recall it being all that comfortable, don't recall it being bad either. |
