Spots on x5 vernasca leather seats

Hey all,

I noticed some strange spots on my front seats in my x5 today. I just got it back from being tinted, and I don’t know if the spray solution would have caused this during the application, but I am wondering if anyone has an idea on what to do about these spots in the picture. It looks like some sort of splatter. I’ve tried just wiping it down with a cloth, but that didn’t do anything.

That definitely looks like splatter residue from someone spraying.

Any recommendation for getting it off? I don't want to damage the leather in the process.

Does it feel oily or greasy? I would try using some interior or all purpose cleaner on a microfiber. If that doesn't work, step up to a soft used toothbrush. Maybe step up to dawn dish soap if it feels greasy.

It doesn't really feel like anything - just dark spots. The detailer told me just now to try using an all purpose cleaner or diluted soap, but I read somewhere that dish soap can dull/damage the leather. Happy to be told otherwise if that is an easy fix.

Try a leather cleaner. Vernasca leather is coated and pretty durable so I doubt it will dull or fade.

Agreed. It's got a layer of plastic over the leather. You'll be fine.

Be gentle when you rub it and don't use anything that is abrasive.

***Yea, the leather is coated and very robust. I had a similar splatter problem from the tint shop and I removed it with one of Griot's leather/interior cleaners and a microfiber towel. Once clean, I used BMW leather seat cleaner/preservative I got at the dealer.

Spots are gone now. Thank goodness as I was pretty pissed when I saw the spots!
