Repairing Frozen Grey?
Hi - I'm looking to pick up ( or more likely order ) a car in the next week or two ( prob an M5 or 550e ) - but I'd like to get the frozen grey.
My detailer has warned me that frozen grey can be tough on a daily driver because it isnt' so easy to fix with polish. How have you guys found the durability of the current frozen grey? Is it ok for a dd? Thanks!! |

If I were to get a frozen color, I'd have it full ppf'd. Was really interested in a frozen grey M2 until I saw a brand new one at my dealer that had horrible water spots & swirls. Metallic paint it is for me.

EEESH. I saw a YouTube about that some months ago and figured it was just a one-off.

From the horses mouth i.e. BMW AG employees “Frozen colors only look good in the showroom”, as frozen color is highly NOT recommended.

get the base grey color you want and then get the "frozen" (aka matte) ppf applied to the entire car.

Plus one on the Skyscraper Grey + stealth/matte PPF.
This forum's basically taught me that if you so much as scrub one spot too hard, you'll burnish the frozen particulate and make a glossy spot. Stealth'd Skyscraper Grey: https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...php?p=30017630

I’ve got frozen grey and bloody love it.
Does it concern me - yes as you can’t polish out scratches but apart from that it’s so easy to maintain. I’m going to ceramic coat and then maybe PPF the front but apart from that nothing else. If it was a Lamborghini or supercar I might PPF but I’ll accept the odd aprons like I do with a good watch 😆

If you're buying a used car with frozen paint, have it inspected by a detail shop familiar with this kind of finish before buying ...any shiny spots, scratches, or chips can't be repaired. If the owner maintained it and (best case scenario) had PPF, then it should be fine.
