I'm sort of not in favor of tracking one's car. But not everyone can have a dedicated track car.

I'll put this right up front. Be sure you have sufficient insurance to cover the car/you in the event you have an off and meet up with a guardrail or you lose control and hit another car or vice versa.

The car should have no issues. No coolant leak, no oil leak. The car wants to be in tip top road condition.

Show up at the track with fresh oil in the engine. Have some extra in case the engine uses oil while on the track.

Show up with freshly flushed/bled brakes. No need for special brake fluid starting out. If the brakes show signs of heat fading take a cool down lap and then head for the pits to let the brakes cool down.

Be sure the car's interior is free of any loose stuff. Last thing you want is a water bottle or baby toy to get under the pedals. But even something knocking about in the glove box or trunk can be distracting.

Brakes should have reasonable pad and rotor life let. Same goes for tires. Be sure tires are properly inflated for the speeds you will be hitting.

Ideally you want a wife/GF or buddy with a vehicle to accompany you and the vehicle to serve as a place to store the spare oil, bottled water, snacks, portable air compressor, etc.

Keep an eye on coolant and engine oil temperature. If either gets too elevated time to take a cool down lap and then pit. What is too elevated of an oil temperature? Well, 250F for oil temperature is a number that has been bandied about.

Speaking of pitting after a session. Bring car in and park it but let the engine idle some to give the engine cooling system time to shed the considerable heat load the engine develops on the track. One cool down lap is not sufficient for this so a bit of extra cool down time in the pits is warranted.

Leave the hood closed. This helps to increase air flow through the radiator/oil cooler and force this air into the engine compartment past the engine and down past the exhaust and underneath the car. In following this route the air also picks up heat from the exhaust and carries it away from the car.
