2013 BMW 5 Series intermitent boot issue

I have a 2013 BMW 5 Series and I am having intermittent issues with the boot opening. Specifically I unlock the car, I press/pull/squeeze the boot latch and nothing happens. I lock the car again, unlock repeat and eventually the boot opens. Sometimes it does it first time, sometimes it takes 3 or 4 attempts.

I dont believe the boot has any electronic assistance as I had a 3 series before this and when I opened the boot I heard a mechanical whirring and then it opened whereas this car doesn't make that noise and just clicks open.

There are no warning lights and all other functions are working fine

Any advice, any threads that are already open for this I can have a look at.

Does it open reliably using the fob? If so suspect the boot handle switch.

If the car is running it won't let you open it. I have to use the FOB or the switch in the car if it is running. Otherwise be sure to firmly grab the handle. I have had it a couple times where I don't grab it hard enough and it doesn't open.

I just realized that this is a 2013 and not a 2023. Sorry read that wrong. Do you have a physical key for the vehicle or is it a push to start?
