Blow Dry or Towel Dry?

I see so many battery op blowers and Dry towels out there, and wanted to know which ones do you prefer? What do you like or use best? I used a leaf blower but it doesn't do that great a job, so went back to my soft micro Dry towel from Chemical Guys which works well. Curious if you do use an air blower which one do you recommend? Seems to save some time and gets water out of those pesky areas that always tend to drip later leaving water stains.

Thanks!!

People also like the EGO that has a stubby nozzle that you can buy from them. People make 3d printed stubby noses for other brands but I think they don't work that well.

But no matter what you still need a drying tower to get some stuff. I try to focus on getting the bulk of the water and all the spots that hold water with the blower (handles, gas cap, mirrors, doors, front trim)

Leaf blowers do a great job getting 95% of the water off the freshly washed car surface. You get the rest with a towel, or not at all (when washing multiple daily drivers).

Since I always finish the wash with cleaning the windows, adding another pass over the paint with a quality towel is not a big extra.

It doesn't matter which towel you use, but I found Griot's Edgeless drying towel to be good for 2+ cars after you knocked off the bulk of the water with a leaf blower (whichever one is in your garage).

Thanks. The leaf blower did an ok job but the long nozzle kept tapping the paint. Luckily there were no scratches but I know if I keep using the LB is only a matter of time I ding the hood or worse.

I’m not much for using leaf blowers for my yard work or for drying cars. I have been using these drying towels Microfiber Madness Waveride https://www.autoobsessed.com/product...x0SMHrfSMRKMLQ. I find they work really well.

I use the Air Force Master Blaster for my cars and motorcycle. It works great and has a pre-filter to minimize particles that potentially could blow out of the hose. If you get one of these, get two hoses so you can reach all parts of the car without moving the motor unit around.

I would think a towel would put micro scratches in the finish.

My method as well. Blow most, towel the rest.

Yeah, to be fair you kept tapping the paint with the nozzle, but it's doable if you're more careful.

Depends on the quality of the towel and how hard you press. An old bath towel, with any force, yes. A good new MF just barely touching with more than the force of gravity has worked fine for me.

I've added a CR Spotless into the setup, so I'll do a pretty quick blow dry to get most of the water off and then not worry about smaller drops as it shouldn't leave water spots.

I spray a little Griot's Speed Shine and use a Rag Company Gauntlet towel. The larger size is easily enough to do 1 car, although I dedicate a small size for the wheels. I apply no force, just guide the towel over the surface. Typically only use one pass and I'm good to go.

I also fold in the side mirrors to help drain out trapped water while I'm drying the rest of the car.

I get the reason for using a leaf blower but, personally, don't think the noise and expense is worth it. I also don't have any of my cars coated.

Combination of Rapid Dry towels (I love those) and Adams Air Cannon. Nothing worse than drip marks to me.

The Air Cannon is so powerful, I can only use it at 1/2 power otherwise I’d be afraid of blowing off moldings and things

The purpose built air cannons are much better than the leaf blower and can mostly dry the car and faster. I had the good leaf blower around so I use it but eventually I am going to make a full wash station inside the mouth of the garage with hard piped pressure washer and air cannon.

Leaf blower is also nice to have to throw in the trunk if you are going to use a touchless in a pinch but don't want to suffer the terrible dryers they usually have.

The Air Force Master Blaster is very similar to the Adam’s; hose and all. It too has full and half power. These unit are great and blow filtered air at the vehicle.

I cross shopped between those two , but the hose on the Adam’s one was 3 x as long (30 ft) so I could park it and work from there. And it was $200 less expensive that I quickly spent on other car cleaning products

I blow dry it with a leaf blower and then dry it with a microfiber towel.

I have a set up that works great for me. I have a manual car wash .8 miles from my home, so I wash the car there, drive it home, and wipe it off with a wet terrycloth towel. I do use a small Abeden blower on the wheels and edges, then just wipe off the excess with the towel. Having said that, my car never actually gets dirty, and I can't stand rusty rotors, so this process works great for me.

Greetings,

You might start with Griot's Ceramic Wash and Coat (water just flows off)...blow dry (I use a battery powered leaf blower)...and then micro towel. The leaf blower does a nice job on the wheels, discs, and barrels.

It would be very easy to air dry the car (subject to microfiber touch-up) by driving to the end of the street and back. Seems easier than a leaf blower and cheaper than buying a master blaster. I may try that this weekend.

The air coming out of a leaf blower is (on mine) 170mph.

Driving the car to dry it does not work unless you just dont give a shit that your car isnt dry.

You're saying I can't get the 5er up to 170 mph on my cul-de-sac?

OK, fine. Sounds like a crappy idea, then.
