Guy backed into my M340i

Doesn't look that bad but the cost is $3900 to repair.
Bumper had full PPF.
Black diffuser had no cracks but is scratched between bumper and red reflector.
I'm bummed out.

That's unfortunate.

Be sure the cost to repair includes a proper (dealer) check out of the parking/proximity sensors and their operation.

Yes, collisions placed has priced in checking sensors and recalibrating. He says it’s usually done when bumper is removed.

Your insurance should cover the replacement cost of the PPF so make sure the adjuster confirms this to you. 😉

Collision placed has included the cost of removing the PPF and installing it even though they will not be the one installing it. Received a quote from the original PPF installer and they will be doing it. I just wonder how a check will be cut to pay two different people if all costs are on the collision company’s estimate who won’t be doing 100% of the work?

BTW, my engine was running in the parking space. Shouldn’t the sensors have sensed an incoming hit and turn on the recording? There was nothing recorded. I thought recordings were automatic. I have it set for 20 seconds after and before.

Yes, I will wait 30 days.
I will only set up the appointment ahead of time because the PPF guy is very busy. So once I know it will be completed, I will make an appointment. I already have an appointment to PPF a 25 CLE 53 AMG
for 6/23. I may be picking it up on Tuesday. I won't know until Monday. Dealer just called me and it arrived at Brunswick port on 6/4, was already in process at the VPC center on 6/5, and the dealer received notice today that it was 1 day away from delivery but won't know for certain until Monday.

That's a lot of money for that small injury to the car, it seems. Must be the BMW tax. I wonder how much similar damage on a Corolla would cost...

It'll be a bit of mess but it can be done in one of two ways; at least with how things happened with me and State Farm.

Since you already have the body shop price in the PPF as their submitted estimate, the insurance company is going to pay the body shop for all the items in the estimate/repair bill. The body shop will then pay the PPF place. This happened with one of my claims with my Toyota. I had aftermarket bulbs installed in my car when I hit a deer. The body shop put into the estimate the cost of getting replacement units. The body shop then purchased the LED bulbs from a local supplier. Fast forward almost three years, one of the LED bulbs had a burnt out emitter. I went back to the body shop to get a warranty claim put in. They handled the transaction with the local supplier since technically they were the customer for the supplier.

Also with this repair, I forgot to get the clear PPF/vinyl accounted for that I had applied onto the the headlight lenses. I contacted State Farm and they said to just go to the PPF place to get it done and then submit the bill to them for reimbursement.

It's a bit of a myth. BMW owners are probably more persnickety than Honda owners so it should be more but a similar damage on our 2018 Honda accord was $2500 including deductible. I'm continually shocked how expensive our "average" cars cost to maintain.

Imagine the peace of mind of driving a beat-up and worn-out car, and then something happens to it, and then you say to yourself, "That'll buff right out; otherwise, who gives a shit!"

Lol.

I think you'll need to wait about three months iirc. But you can ask the installer.

He said 30 days. You’re in Delray? I’m waiting for a CLE53 AMG to arrive at Delray MB. With BMW, you can track. Not so with MB. All I know is that car is at VPC in Brunswick, GA.

Yep. Been living here for 25 years. It's gotten way too crowded and expensive.

Work in the insurance industry, was a collision appraiser in the field for about 20 years, most of those years were in FL. took a look at that estimate, I don't see any red flags. PPF cost is on the high side but I've seen worse. Sorry that happened to you but you'd rather have it on a bumper than a door or quarter panel. As others have mentioned, wait 30 days minimum for the finish to off-gas before you apply PPF. good luck with the car.

As for PPF price, compared to others, it’s not that much more. The workmanship is much more important and they’re top notch. They’re the ones who originally installed the PPF.
Thanks for your input.

I will be waiting at least a month. I thought today's modern automotive paints didn't need curing time like in the old days.
