Remapping my ECU (323i > 325i)
I came across an article somewhere, talking about the possibility of remapping an E93 323i to gain the bhp of a 325i (218 bhp)
1. Do you know any Tuning Shop in HKG that is reputable and won't likely mess up with my ECU and end up with burned valves? 2. What is your opinion about remapping an ECU, have you done that before? |

You can try PM wkmark. He has done ECU reprogram locally for his 320i. I understand his choice also provide options for other NA engines.

My two cents to these questions:-
I do not think remapping the ECU will necessarily help you to gain bhp. My understanding is that 323 and 325 shares the same engine block but they have different ECU mapping and different manifold. So in addition to the ECU remap, you better improve the way your 323 breathes as well otherwise remapping will not help a lot. As for who to turn to get it remapped in HK to the 325 programme, I did ask around but got no positive reply, so I am afraid I can't help you there. Cheers! Lou |

Thanks Tigermow...
In my modification project (which is being carried on) I have changed the Air intake... The next on my long list, is the exhaust. I am considering between 3 options, ACS Exhaust system, BMW Performance or HKS... This might be coming pretty soon... I've looked into many tuners in the UK. They are willing to reprogram my Chip, If I email it to them, though I still strongly believe that doing it locally is much better. I read about an ECU program, than you you can upload by yourself within 30-45 minutes... Will need to make more searches on that to see how true it is Happy New Year All!! |

It seems that you are on the right track.
I am also starting my mod programme for my car. Thinking of "lowering" the car first as the E90 is a touch on the high side. Any suggestions? I need to balance comfort with performance on the ride, so I think any performance suspension may be too hard a ride. May be just the BMW sport suspension? Or should I go for the H&Rs and Bilstein combo? After that, it would be the air intake and exhuast to assist the car to breathe better. These mods would be progressively introduced once I have saved up the necessary budget for it. Cheers! Lou |

I have lowered my car using OHLINS; The suspension is a street performance that balance between comfortability and performance. The ride is not as smooth as the stock suspensions; but certainly much stable and more enjoyable to ride... The down side is that I cannot access few parking lots (Muffler/Silencer touching)
I suggest you buy 1 set from the brand name (Spring + suspensions), it is not advisable to mix match. Ohlins can be adjusted to 5 levels (H&R and Bilstein should be the same) |

dont bother man...unless you have a turbo, a flash/piggyback to the ECU will not help you much. you'll probably pay a lot for only 10-20bhp.

Perhaps, adding a Super Charge to run 0.3-0.4 bar will be much safer and cheaper than the remap!!! I doubt it very much for the workability of remap even some says, workable...... how can you assure the ECU has been remap with a 325 program? Just my 02 cents....

Mike,
I remapped my 323 to the 325. But I have changed few other things to cope with this remap. Yet, I am not quite sure if the remap was worth it. Like "335 Freak" said, maybe a Super Charge is a better option. I run a Dyno and the car gained 15 bhp (before installing the Simota Intake V2) I need to change now my Exhaust system; but I am still waiting for this new quad from SuperSprint... Good luck and keep us updated. |

I really want to know where and what supercharge kits are available for my 325 or even 323. I've been desperately waiting for such upgrade. Anyone here about any supercharge systems available?

You can see that, even though for a 335i if applying any one from the above software didn't mean can't gain over 30% from original power. Especially I heard some friends told me that E9x 323i's engine is E46 325i's engine, which is not the same engine as E9x's 325i (totally new). If this is the fact, just if, then, I personnally think that you don't need to spend many to mod this 323i either in E90/91/92/93, especially E93 323i, those 28 hps couldn't help your car a lot as your car is in weight of 1,680 kgs. |

They are few tuners making the Supercharge kit for our Bimmer N.A. engine, you really have to search through different forums and see which one is more popular and give you trouble free!!
I kind of agree of what Renus said, if you are targeting of 25-30HP of power gain on 323 or even 325 engine, you better save the money for buying a big dinner or buy your wife/GF some new clothes for the fall/winter season, it is just not worth it in which, won't be notficeable, unless a supercharge kit is a totally different story!! Most of those mod on NA engine is aimed for high rev and whilst, we all living in HK and understand we seldom press the gas pedal till redline for making use of the high rev speedometer zone!! I had my 325 E46 before and I spent all the mods which cannot be able to achieve even 15HP more.....Then, I started to give up but trade for a turbo Audi prior I purchased my current 335!!

just grab a bms power box from Terry@bms, it will only run you a bit over US$300. it should work on all n52 motors, just go look up the tachnical forum for reviews.

have you searched the forums? I recalled someone has successfully put a 325 manifold and ecu to a 323. other than a bit more bhp, you will get btter low end torque. good luck.

For USD300.00 to exchange for better low rev and torque should be justify...... However, no need to upgrade too many hardware mods....especially for the exhaust!! It is pretty much no use except for louder sound if this is what you aimed!!!
I have my 335 running 1.5 bar and still have enough output for my stock exhaust except the de-cat which I will be doing very soon!!
