Z3M

So I was wondering if any bimmerpost members have ever owned such a car. I for longest time looked into a 2001-2002 Z3M. The 325horses sounded very appealing, and it's faster than the Z4M. Thoughts?

i have a 2000 M Roadster but with the s52 engine. its a great car and handles very well stock. obviously the 01-02 models are a lot faster with the bigger engine. you should check over on bimmerforums as thats where most owners are.

there are a few things you have to make sure gets addressed: subframe welds tend to fail, the subframe bushings and rear diff ears should be replaced.

there are other smaller items to look for but are a lot less minor compared to the others above.

Z3M is not faster than Z4M. It's the opposite.

Z4M's engine feels more responsive somehow. Probably due to gearing on the 6 speed in the Z4M.

Supposed to be the same engine, but I owned a 2001 M Coupe and test driven a lot of MZ4 and the MZ4 seems to pull harder. I'm pretty sure it's due to the transmission though.

Z3M is not faster than the Z4M, but IMHO the throttle response and the overall M feel(sound/weight etc) makes the Z3M a more exciting claustrofobic(cabin is small) experience than its newer brother imho.

I've heard the same thing from owners, but I can't get over the "clown shoe" look of it.
