Details on Alpina B6 GT3 racer

More images and details of Alpina's B6 GT3 racer have hit the web, and it looks like despite spending two decades away from motorsports, there are no flies on the leading Bimmer tuning haus.

Based on BMW's 6-Series coupe, the B6 weighs under 3,000 pounds and gets a supercharged 4.4-liter V8 that gives more than 520 horsepower and 535 pound-feet of torque. Backed by a six-speed X-Trac sequential gearbox, the car is reportedly capable of hitting 62 miles-per-hour in 3.9 seconds en route to a top whack of at least 177 mph (a speed it has already reached in testing on the Nürburgring).

The B6 GT3 will debut at next month's Geneva Motor Show before going on to scrap with Aston Martin, Porsche, and Ferrari on circuits around the world. Alpina will field its own team (it is reportedly considering a number of pro drivers), but privateers will also be able to buy their own B6 if they fancy going it alone. - Autoblog

so hot! What would be amazing would be to see it and the Rahl-Letterman M3 on the same track!

Looks cool but I doubt it'll fare well on the racetrack. The 6-series body doesn't scream track performance to me for some reason.

don't really like it, i'm not a fan of alpina anyway. "at least 177 mph" sounds slow with those specs, the car is hopefully able to reach a top speed much higher than "at least 177 mph".

What series will it be in? Are talking Rolex with the Daytona Prototypes? I'd bet it will hit much faster than 177. That speed doesn't seem very competitive with other 550hp cars.

I'm sure it's geared to achieve the maximum speed in top gear in which a given circuit would allow. Top speed typically only happens once per lap (at most circuits) and for an extremely brief period compared to the rest of the lap. To be successful, it needs to be reliable, very well balanced, kind to the tires, etc.

I doubt you'd see this car at Daytona. It's more likely to race in FIA GT or the Le Mans 12 and 24 hour series races here in Europe.

BTW, 177 mph on the Nurburgring is quite an achievement. I'm sure that speed was down the main straight on the F1 portion of the circuit. During endurance races, the whole circuit is in use, both the F1 portion and north loop.

From Flugplatz on to Schwedenkreuz a well driven 'normal'M3 could achieve >140mph already.Let's not forget the Döttinger Höhe straight both on the Northloop.
